Two big award shows screen on UKTV next month, express from the UK.

bafta2Both the British Academy Film Awards and the BRIT Awards will screen on UKTV next month, express from the UK.

The EE British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) are considered the most respected film awards outside of the USA and will premiere on Monday February 17 from 8.00am (simulcast with the BBC One broadcast) with the encore at 8.30pm on UKTV. Hosted by British actor and writer Stephen Fry, both broadcasts will include the red carpet pre-show, with all eyes on Aussie Cate Blanchett to see if she will scoop the Lead Actress award for Blue Jasmine.

Renowned for honouring an impressive line-up of stars, the awards are regarded as an important indicator of the frontrunners for the Academy Awardsâ. Some of the nominations for this year’s EE British Academy Film Awards include: Leonardo Dicaprio for Lead Actor in The Wolf of Wall Street; Judi Dench for Lead Actress in Philomena; Christian Bale and Amy Adams for their roles as Lead Actor and Lead Actress in American Hustle; and Matt Damon for Supporting Actor in Behind the Candelabra. 12 Years A Slave, American Hustle, Captain Philips, Gravity and Philomena are all nominated in the Best Film category.

Also on UKTV this February are the BRIT Awards – the most anticipated night of the British music industry calendar. Express from the UK, the awards will air Thursday February 20 at 8.30pm with the encore on Sunday February 23 at 2.45pm. This year the star-studded event will feature live performances and unique collaborations from some of the biggest stars in the business, including international superstar Katy Perry, British rock sensations Arctic Monkeys, Bruno Mars, Ellie Goulding and one of the night’s most nominated bands, Bastille. The awards will be hosted by James Corden and will see Arcade Fire, Daft Punk, Haim, Kings of Leon and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis competing for Best International Group. New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde, nominated for Best International Female Solo Artist, is also one to watch out for on the night.

EE British Academy Film Awards: Monday February 17 from 8.00am on UKTV with an encore at 8.30pm.

Brit Awards: Thursday February 20 at 8.30pm with an encore on Sunday February 23 at 2.45pm.
