Ellen DeGeneres to produce lesbian sitcom

One Big Happy centres around a woman who gets pregnant just as her straight male best friend marries the love of his life.

2014-01-29_1535Ellen DeGeneres will co-produce a lesbian-themed multi-cam comedy for NBC, called One Big Happy.

The plot centres around a woman who gets pregnant just as her straight male best friend meets and marries the love of his life.

It will be written by openly gay writer Liz Feldman (2 Broke Girls) who is co-executive producer, through DeGeneres’ Warner Bros. Television-based A Very Good Production company.

The pilot comes despite NBC cancelling this season’s Sean Saves the World with Sean Hayes, and Ryan Murphy’s The New Normal.

The Hollywood Reporter notes NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt, who is openly gay, has a history of LGBT-themed programming dating back to his time as the head of Showtime, where he greenlighted The L Word and the US adaptation of Queer as Folk.

There’s no word if Ellen will actually perform in the comedy at this stage.

  1. Its a shame Sean saves the world is cancelled.

And Someday someday maybe wasn’t in the list for 2014/15 pilots… unless its for later next year. Hope so love Ellen & Lauren Graham. The book is really good so it should be a good show.

  2. Ellen is also producing a pilot with Lauren Graham based on Lauren’s new book “Someday, Someday, Maybe”. It could air on the CW if it’s picked up.

Shame Sean Saves the World was canceled, really like Sean Hayes but nothing will be him in Will and Grace.
