FOX Sports: Summer of Tennis guide

FOX Sports showcases three tennis events beginning with the World Tennis Challenge and culminating at the Australian Open.

2014-01-06_0049FOX Sports will showcase three tennis events over the coming weeks beginning with the World Tennis Challenge and culminating at the Australian Open

It all begins January 7, 2014, in Adelaide when former champions and current contenders come together to compete in the World Tennis Challenge.

Each night at 7pm, Wally Masur will join Adam Peacock to call all the action as a star-studded line-up, including Martina Hingis, Martina Navratilova, Mats Wilander and Henri Leconte compete in the three-day exhibition tournament.

Focus then turns to Tasmania for the WTA Hobart International, where Samantha Stosur will apply the final touches to her Australian Open preparations before she heads to Melbourne Park.

FOX Sports will deliver Live and Exclusive coverage of both Semi-Finals and the Final on January 10 and 11.

Then the first major silverware of the year goes on the line when the 2014 Australian Open swings into action on January 13.

Australia’s Sports Leader will once again showcase the year’s first Grand Slam from Day 1 through to the Men’s Singles Final with Live and High Definition coverage of the opening eight days each morning from 11am.

Across the first eight days, viewers will also be treated to 24 hour long coverage with FOX Sports replaying all the big matches from the show courts including Rod Laver arena.

FOX Sports’ coverage will be spearheaded by leading analyst, Masur, alongside former Wimbledon champion, Pat Cash, with former women’s professional, Nicole Pratt and one-time Australian Open semi-finalist, Paul McNamee, rounding out the team.

Masur, Peacock and Cash will then return at 6pm each night across the first 10 days for an hour-long recap of all the day’s play plus preview the upcoming night session on The Daily Serve.

All eyes will be on local hopes Sam Stosur and Bernard Tomic as they renew their quest for a breakthrough home Grand Slam title, but with all the big names returning to Melbourne Park the challenge has never been greater.

The women’s field sees the seemingly unstoppable women’s World No 1 Serena Williams alongside defending champion Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova –hungrier than ever after returning from injury – contest the year’s opening Major.

While the New Year opens a new chapter in a dramatic era for men’s tennis that continues to smash records across the board.

World No. 1 Rafael Nadal will launch his bid to become the only man in the modern era to win every Major at least twice, while Novak Djokovic attempts to claim his fourth consecutive crown inside Rod Laver arena. But throw in the likes of current Wimbledon champion Andy Murray and 17-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer and the stage is set for another frenetic fortnight of tennis action.

In addition, FOX Sports News will deliver all the biggest stories from the Australian Open with Neroli Meadows on ground to provide all the breaking news throughout the tournament. Fans can also go to foxsports.com.au for all the latest news and highlights plus have their say on the daily Australian Open blog.

  1. Can’t they bring back the Viewers Choice Option again?? I remember that time it was with Ryan Phelan hosting from the panel, and he said, you can press the red button for Viewers Choice. That was the Best! thing Ever! Bring it back Fox Sports! I’ve been waiting ever since.

  2. in previous years Fox Sports hd viewers choice on The Australian Open ( 4 games or more to choose from from memory) Now they just chop and change matches to what they think is interesting.

    Disgraceful fox Sports!
