What Australian Open? On Saturday it was all about the inaugural ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ trophy.

Australian Open 2014.Kids Tennis DayNickelodeon presenters Luke and Wyatt hosted the Kids Tennis Day at Melbourne Park, yesterday, joined by Australian Open stars, celebrities, channel faces and thousands of kids.

Roger Federer joined Rafael Nadal, Victoria Azarenka, Lleyton Hewitt, Sam Stosur and Pat Rafter at Rod Laver Arena for the inaugural ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ trophy.

The event capped off a series of Kids Tennis Days that have been held around the country, by Nickelodeon.

Henri Leconte, Mansour Bahrami, Billy Slater and Alicia Molik appeared along with Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, Dora the Explorer, Diego and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Sam Moran

There were also performances from Guy Sebastian, Samantha Jade and the Stafford Brothers.

Kids were able to play tennis guided by Tennis Australia coaches and take part in the Slime Time Live show.

“The most rewarding part for me is seeing kids of all ages and skill levels, including those who hadn’t tried their hand at tennis before, learn some new skills and most importantly, have fun,” said Tennis Australia CEO, Craig Tiley.
