As the gossip tabloids have recounted, Deborra-Lee and Hugh met on the set of ABC prison drama Corelli. It was a meeting of hearts and minds – shared values shaped, perhaps most of all, by similar childhoods within single-parent families. But when it came to starting a family of their own, Deb and Hugh would run headlong into an entrenched anti-adoption culture that treated would-be adopting parents almost as criminals.

It was the start of an extraordinary personal journey that has become a mission. Today, Deborra-Lee’s crusade to ensure children in need of homes find loving new families has brought about historic change. While Hugh works on his next summer blockbuster, she’s now taking the campaign for adoption reform all the way to the United Nations.
