Sherlock fans hungry for Aussie return

A big hit in the UK, Sherlock's return already has Aussie fans impatient.

2014-01-03_0115Looks like Nine had better schedule Sherlock‘s return as soon as possible.

The show’s return has pulled its best-ever UK ratings and fans in Australia have already been bombarding Nine’s Facebook site, breathlessly awaiting news of an Airdate. Yesterday the show was even trending in Australia, despite not having been broadcast here for nearly two years.

In the UK the 90-minute instalment pulled a record 9.2m viewers, as viewers tuned in to learn how Sherlock faked his own death in the last episode of Season 2.

Deadline reports provisional figures also make it the the most-watched drama of the whole holiday period in the UK.

Australian fans are unlikely to see its return before February -a date is yet to be confirmed by Nine- so avoid online spoilers at all costs.

The next 90-minute Sherlock Season 3 episode, The Sign Of Three, airs in the UK on Monday, Australian time.

  1. I still wish they would play it soon. Plus the earlier episodes to remind viewers what happened. As it has been awhile for all the episodes. So it would be a good way for viewers to know what occurred. Either old or new ones.

I really look forward to seeing it and would be grateful if I got to see it. I think it an excellent show. I’ve got the DVDs. But I’d watch the repeats if possible for the ads. If I had a digital recorder I’d record the ads to replay them. That’s how enthusiastic I feel and I’m not making it up.

  2. @Paul007 So adaptations of Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle are in the same league as Australia’s Naughties Home videos, wow so it seems 10million Brits are watching dross. Actually what you named in your little rant are fictional TV shows, real TV is the probably the news.

  3. This show has fans/let alone a fan? Its rubbish, real tv is stuff like Game of Thrones, Sons of Anarchy and Ray Donovan. Not this dross. Kerry Packer once said get this s..t of our screens about Australia’s Naughtiest videos I am sure he would say the same about this Sherlock show.

  4. While holding shows off does have its merits. In this case the show does not have a strong enough fan base in Australia. 9 doesn’t have anything to gain airing it in ratings they may as well air it in non ratings and keep the vocal fans happy.

  5. Who knows what Nine will do? Often not even they seem to know what they are planning.

There is only a short ODI season this year so they could be launching their full lineup in February. But on past behaviour they might wait to see how Sochi pans out and what Seven do first.

We will probably find out in a month.

  6. How do you stay away from spoilers though David.

I hate seeing spoilers but every second media site I go to these days seem to have spoiler filled reviews.

Which really dampen my enjoyment of a program.

Surely nine or gem could drop endless repeats of Big Bang or 2 broke girls to find a place and fast track this during the summer.

And pay the BBC to fast track it and keep fans happy and not waiting!

And try and keep all sides happy!m

  7. Yeah Nine is not likely to return it until the ratings start, have the learnt nothing?

IMO it should air on the ABC and not Nine, they should at least put is on line some place legal.

  8. Yeah, lets hope 9 get their act together and air it soon. They should air it when 7 has the Tennis on, not everyone wants to watch boring tennis.

  9. Considering they didn’t show much respect to this show last time and it wasn’t a major ratings success, Nine should just fast track it now. It would rate well at this time of year.
