2014-02-03_0944With Nine deciding not to pit Schapelle against Seven’s INXS miniseries, next Sunday at 8:30pm it screens a documentary about a 2010 flight from Singapore to Sydney that nearly became one of the world’s worst air disasters.

Peter Overton presents a special investigation into one of the most well publicised aircraft calamities’ in history — the QF32. A harrowing tale of what went wrong and the remarkable courage it took to bring its passengers’ to safety. 

Nine also has a telemovie on the topic set to air later in the year called Mayday Mayday: The Story of QF32.

8:30pm Sunday on Nine.

  1. Hi Patricia Jean,
    They could not dump fuel as the dump and transfer systems had been damaged as a result of the engine failure. a piece of the blade had passed through the underside of the fuselage and cut through two control wiring harnesses. see the 4

  2. In Toronto, Canada, we just watched, on the Discovery Channel, the QF32 A380 Airbus engine explosion after takeoff from Singapore. Tonight being July 11, 2014.

    My question is: Why did the pilots not dump fuel to a safe landing level while over the ocean when they turned back to land in Singapore?

    The TV show did not show this happening so I’m just asking. Thanks…Patricia

  3. I’m confused. Is this going to be the Air Crash Investigation “Titanic in the Sky” episode, but with Peter Overton doing the narration, or is a completely different doco altogether?

  4. @ Kenny: the Air Crash Investigation episode featuring QF32 premieres here in March on National Geographic Channel (one month after the Canadian broadcast).

  5. Is this not just an episode from Nine’s “Mayday” series – the UK-voiced version of Seven’s Air Crash Investigation? Season 13, Ep.10 perhaps?
    If so, then where’s the “special investigation”?

  6. Sorry David for the aviation purists, the pic is of wrong plane and incident. QF 32 was an A380 whose engine exploded after takeoff from Singapore. The pic is of the 747 that suffered an exploding oxygen cylinder in flight.
