Very sorry to bid farewell to The Big C next Monday night, in its last ever episode.
It’s been a gem of a show, starring the wonderful Laura Linney. I could watch her in just about anything.
The idea of a series about a woman dying of cancer is hardly the stuff to enthuse television executives, so kudos to the Showtime execs who made this happen. Despite the theme it’s actually been a life-affirming drama.
GEM has kept us waiting for these to playout, but the last ever episode screens at 11:30pm Monday night.

thanks for the clarifications. I was hooked long before it aired, but that was because i was diagnosed with cancer not long after it first aired in America.
I have found it a hugely valuable program; funny, touching, provocative and life affirming. I just love Oliver Platt in this and John Benjamin Hickey has grown on me. Gabriel Basso is just perfect! I am so pleased that the Emmy fixed their ignoring of Laura’s incredible performance by giving her the Best Actress in a Mini Series or special category last year. Her career 4th i think….
But yes, it will be sad & hard to say goodbye to it.
Initially I was hesitant to watch because of subject matter, but the Laura Linney factor pushed me and has proved to be a gem of a little show.
@.daveinprogress I was confused also until finding that it was shown in 4 one hour episodes to wrap up series in US. GEM has shown them in 8 half hour eps.
Yes it will be a sad ending next Monday, but well worth the journey.
I looked into the 60 / 30 min question. It was offered as either / or for international markets by Showtime.
Excellent show. A real masterpiece. Makes you wonder how it got jammed on a secondary channel late at night…
I left a comment on this post yesterday but it seems to have vanished or not moderated. Any reason why, David?
this season is great, among the other seasons.
Sad to see the show ending. I will be tuning in this Monday night for sure
.
Warning: There will be tears.
I’m glad they let this show play out to the very end. I’m going to miss it.
It was a very different but delightful show when I first starting watching it years ago. I felt it lost it’s way in this season and the one before. I have not kept up with it this season as I can’t watch her die.Watching this series bloom with such a difficult subject was a delight.
i’m very confused, but thankful David that you have posted this, as i thought it had finished! I am sure I watched 4 eps last month and that was all there was. The wikipedia episode article for the series has 4 eps in series 4 but the synopses do not match.
Also it is always great to read you wax lyrical about a show or an actor. That might seem a strange comment as it is your blog, but you rarely editorialise. I am so with you on Laura Linney – she has been a firm favourite since Tales of the City. She is just brilliant and always interesting even if the film she is in, is not! Cheers.
