Now a Dutch remake of Wentworth (and here’s a peek!)

Video: First Germany, now the Netherlands is remaking Foxtel's Wentworth series.

2014-02-04_1519First there was Germany, now the Netherlands is remaking Wentworth, which is great news for FremantleMedia and Foxtel.

The Dutch remake, entitled Celblok H, is a nod to the original Prisoner series which was known as Prisoner: Cell Block H in many international territories. It even features Prisoner‘s trademark ‘sliding door.’

The series teases “power, gossip, envy and murder” as its ingredients and stars Isa Hoes in the ‘Bea Smith’ role, but known as ‘Suus,’ a hairdresser imprisoned for the attempted murder of her husband.

2014-02-04_1519_001Actress Nicole da Silva told TV Tonight, “We had a couple of visitors on set and the Dutch ‘Frankie’ is already on set doing it. Amazing!.”

The 10 part Dutch version is already set to launch on SBS6, with a premiere date of March 3rd.

Wentworth producers Jo Porter and Amanda Crittenden also recently hosted a set visit for producer Guido Reinhardt from the German version. The German adaptation, to be known as Block B, will begin production next month.

  1. Was the original Prisoner also a hit in those territories? When I grew up in the UK, I was addicted to late night repeats on ITV. When I went to the US for 4 months, my mum taped almost every episode for me so I could have a massive catch up when I got home. Thus, I found the new Wentworth absolutely thrilling.
