TEN bumps So You Think You Can Dance to better timeslot

TEN has made a sensible amendment moving Dance to a 7:30pm start on Sunday, away from two Reality juggernauts.

2014-02-19_2311_001TEN has made a sensible amendment for this Sunday night moving So You Think You Can Dance Australia from a 6:30pm to 7:30pm start.

That means it won’t go head to head with the bulk of My Kitchen Rules and The Block (both end at 7:40pm). This is a good move, because it means audiences can switch from one Reality show to another, and the network has a point of difference from 60 Minutes and Sunday Night.

At 6:30pm it has a Modern Family double repeat.

As a result Elementary is not returning this Sunday.

However -somewhat bizzarely- Dance remains in place at 6:30pm the following week.

  1. Smit0847 – you make a lot of generalisations there! I (27) have been watching sytycd with my mum (54). Mum loves it and will happily watch dwts later this year. Sytycd showcases a large variety of dance types every week – “crunking” may be a small part of an urban routine and is hardly the only dance shown! Also I hate mkr and yes I watch the block but have a brain big enough to invest in 2 reality shows…..

Possibly true. Although you’d think maybe Robbie Williams might give it a boost for a week. If properly promoted. At least they are giving it a shot. Even if it might not work.

Although if I were watching Elementary I wouldn’t be happy. I do get it is to avoid certain things for a week at least.

  3. I agree with Trev – this show has a narrow audience and even they aren’t watching it. Older viewers with any interest in dancing watch DWTS instead of SYTYCD as they prefer tango over crunking. Heterosexual males have no interest in dancing. Young females are already invested in The Block and MKR and can’t commit to another show.

  4. Supporters of this show seem to be forgetting that this is all about dancing. Along with most side acts, the majority of viewers aren’t really that interested, despite the obvious talent of the dancers.
From a ratings point of view this show should never have been contemplated as it was never going to attract the numbers necessary for it to be a success.

I doubt whether the amended start time will make one iota of difference to the ratings and I can’t see Robbie Williams improving the situation as well.

  5. The commercial breaks are so long in these programs you can easily watch two at once without missing too much, just by flicking back and forth. There’s so much re-capping (most programs could be reduced to half an hour!) you’ll be able to keep up with both.

  6. The TVTonight commentators should hold TEN’s programming position. Eventually, most of the timeslot changes they make end up being what the majority here say it should have been.

I agree with mistaken. I don’t think the audience will increase significantly from the change sadly.

  7. Good more to shift it away from the Block and MKR but I think the damage has already been done. It was never going to do well in the 6:30pm timeslot. It should definitely be on Thursday when MKR isn’t.

  8. This is a much better move. Hopefully viewers will agree so it can stay there. It’s so annoying the way the audiences are being cannibalised – I would watch all three but I only have so many options to record…

  9. This is the date and time it should have started in the first place. Not squashed in between Olympics highlights and live events.
Ten should have launched all new content after the Games and used the Games to promote the hell out of them as Seven do with the tennis.
