Update: Dance, Elementary, Attenborough on TEN

Latest info on TEN's plans for Sunday night.

2014-02-26_1202An Update to TEN’s Sunday line-up.

So You Think You Can Dance remains at 7:30pm, meaning Elementary is still on hold.

At 6:30pm this Sunday TEN screens an Attenborough documentary.

“Meerkats – Secrets Of An Animal Superstar”
David Attenborough tells the story of Meerkat pups Squirt and Weeny. These furry celebrities are also part of the longest running animal behaviour study ever, now in its 20th year.

I concur that it’s a better option to have Dance at 7:30 than 6:30 because of the MKR / Block bash. Last Sunday few had counted on the INXS interview pulling such big numbers. Dance actually has some fab talent, but getting cutting through amid heated competition is unlikely to happen overnight, and reiterates the importance of solid launches.

It’s not clear when Elementary will be rescheduled.

  1. SYTYCD is really not going to do well on a Sunday night as they have seen in previous weeks. Why are they bothering? Why would they take off a great show like Elementary which was averaging about 700k each week in the ratings? They don’t seem to have a clue.

  2. Really wish channel 10 would stop messing around with Elementary. This great show deserves a regular spot without the changes. I was disappointed last week when SYTYCD hadn’t finished by 9.30pm… bring back Elementary!

  3. @JennyW – you do realize it won’t be a new ‘season’ of Elementary but a continuation of the current season.

Pet Peeve is when networks in Australia return shows after the Christmas break and call it a new season when in most cases it the same season that was airing before the holidays.

I wish they would bring Elementary back but it’s good TEN are not dumping shows because of low ratings.

Right now I watch more on TEN then Seven and Nine combined, probably watch more on ABC and SBS than all the commercial channels. Does this mean I’m getting older?

  4. I don’t understand the criticism of this program that is showcasing our talent. You need judges like Paula so that the dancers have some international exposure like The Voice. Our market is too small to focus just on Australia.
There is no comparison with other reality shows. This one at least is showing us some talent, the other ones are just plain annoying (actually I stopped watching them long time ago).

  5. I would really love to know what made 10 decide this was ever a good idea.

The reality shows that are rating on 7 and 9 have nothing in common with SYTYCD. The production styles and values are obviously completely different.

It fell on its face years ago because of viewer fatigue – we all saw it and got it. No need to revisit years later; they are still just dancing around to the same themes to top 40 songs.

No one really knows the judges and I don’t know that Australians really give a damn about Paula do they? Maybe 20 years ago. Lastly the choice of host is terrible – the screeching ads she was fronting on Sunday were hideous and she has not adapted her ‘news’ voice at all!

Words cannot fathom the confusion I have over this decision (though I gave it a good go!)

  6. Really want to see the new season of Elementary but I’m glad Ten are not giving up on SYTYCD and keeping it at 7:30. I don’t think the contestants would get many public votes if the show was moved to Eleven.

  7. David, I stand corrected, I thought HYBPA was at 630 last week …. either way ….. playing it against the news, considering how little ratings it got last week is still suicide ……

  8. nothing is going to save dance, if they are not going to axe it they should cut it down to 1hr and minimise the damage it does to their Sunday share, and consequentially to their momentum starting the week. elementary would do atleast 200k better.

  9. I am really enjoying SYTYCD they have some good dancers and I like all the judges. They really care about the show and not just there for the money.

I think one thing is the voting needs to be a bit clearer and show a clip of each dancer so you know who to vote for, like they do in the American version.
