Voting begins on Logie Awards 2014

After a bumper year there are a whopping 21 local dramas up for consideration in the 2014 Logie Awards.

2013-06-26_1046Voting has now opened on the 56th TV Week Logie Awards.

After a bumper year of television there are a whopping 21 local dramas up for consideration this year, including newcomers A Place To Call Home, Wentworth, Better Man, Power Games: The Packer-Murdoch Story, The Time Of Our Lives and Wonderland.

“So many star performances, so many amazing shows – what a tough contest it’s going to be!” TV Week editor Emma Nolan said. “Don’t miss your chance to have your say about who takes home a TV Week Logie Award in 2014.

“Voting has never been easier. Check out TV Week our website, www.tvweeklogieawards.com.au, which is now mobile-friendly, as well as social media platforms in order to vote and get the latest news and announcements.”

This year the Logies have dropped the Most Popular Factual category in a bid to shorten the ceremony. For the last 6 years it has been won by TEN’s Bondi Rescue. The Most Outstanding Factual category is understood to remain.

The somewhat controversial Most Popular New Talent category has been merged to become gender non-specific. This year networks have not submitted their international Reality TV judges, instead seeing them represented in the Most Popular Presenter category.

The awards will take place on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Crown Entertainment Complex’s Palladium Room and broadcast on Nine, but there is no confirmation yet if the ceremony will be live.

Voting closes on March 2nd with nominations to be announced on March 31st.

  1. @Trev – checking in to see how you went investigating your comments that you recall someone being announced as winning a Logie with only 600 votes.

As someone who has previously worked on the voting procedures of the Logies a number of times, I can guarantee that the number of votes any winner has received has never been made public.

Suggesting “some bloke won a silver logie with only 600 odd votes” is ludicrous. But if you can supply any other information on further researching your claim, please bring it forward here.

  2. It has been a good year of drama. That’s a lot of drama to choose from. A shame that Mr & Mrs Murder and Reef Doctors were the only 2 omitted from the list.

Interesting too the 2 drama awards return to the one (last year, the logies trialled Popular Drama and Popular Mini-Series/TV Movie).

  3. I appear to commit to memory The Logie awards were always broadcast on the first Sunday in May, sometimes falling on Mother’s Day for many years prior to 2012. It was then moved to early April.

Not to sound like a scheme logician, but the event this year falls on April 27. If remembrance serves, the MKR grand final typically airs on the last Sunday in April, around this date. I wonder what’s going to happen now.

  4. Voted for Matt Le Nevez, Kat Stewat, Dannii Minogue, Offspring, Caren Pistorius, Big Brother, Great Aussie Bake Off, Everyday Gourmet…

Why did they retire the factual category yet keep the Logie for sports program?! Giving the footy shows gongs year after year. They can go in light entertainment. That pisses me off so much that TV Week rather celebrates that than good docos and factual programs

  5. I expect Offspring to feature a bit in the categories, with best actor and actress.

I voted for a few actors from a place to call home. Gold Logie was hard though.

Good to see when they combined the most popular talent we didnt have overseas hosts like last year with Joel winning.

  6. I’ve voted Offspring mainly, such an amazing year for the show and truly believe Asher deserves her second Gold.
FYI I know for a fact there is a lot more than 600 votes casted.

  7. Sorry to be so vague, but at the time I did not pay too much attention to it. I may be wrong but I seem to recall it may have been around the time the Chaser boys had some fun with Anton Enus from SBS, possibly earlier. Whoever it was commented on the Chaser prank and mentioned in passing the 600 vote winner as well. It may have been when they used to hand out gongs for whoever happened to be reading the news in SA, TAS and WA.
It was definetly before I purchased this rotten computer and that was in 2007/08.

I will continue to research the matter and get back to you if lucky.

  8. Whenever the Emmy and Oscar nominations, then followed by the winners, are announced, there is very little controversy as the recipients, in most cases are deserved of the honour.
The Logies for many many years have been an absolute farce with programs that nobody watches and actors who cannot act with a gun to their head winning their doorstops. I cannot recall who it was, but not that many years ago some bloke won a silver logie with only 600 odd votes…….an absolute joke.

At this stage one cannot comment until the nominations are published…….the mind boggles.

  9. This year i voted for A Place to Call Home and the cast involved there in actors, actresses and new talent. It was a really great show and hope it does well at the Logies.
