Airdate: 9:16 Film Festival

Community TV in Adelaide turns film on its side Film -literally.

2014-03-12_2319Community TV Channel 44 in Adelaide will tonight screen a special on the 9:16 Film Festival which took place early last month.

Turning vision on its side, all the films were shot in a 9:16 aspect ratio, instead of the standard 16:9. The size reflects the ratio that everyone uses with phone cameras.

A spokesperson told TV Tonight, “A mixture of experienced and emerging filmmakers, all extremely talented, have been commissioned to create new exciting works in multiple genres such as documentary, animation, comedy and experimental.

“The films were projected on a special tall-screen that went from the ground up to the ceiling. The films were also shown in Laneway Festival here in Port Adelaide, projected on the side of Hart’s Mill, an important historic building.”

The film festival was funded by Port Adelaide Council and Renewal SA and managed from community-run video shop, Film Buff Central, an art-house, classic, independent and cult movie rental shop.

“We are so passionate about cinema that we decided to create our own film festival and saw a different spact ratio as a great way to do something that would stand out.”

9:30pm tonight Channel 44 Adelaide.
