Jessica Mauboy to sing at Eurovision

Jessica Mauboy will perform at Eurovision, in recognition of Australia's love affair with the enduring pop contest.

2014-03-26_0030Jessica Mauboy will perform at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest as a guest performer, in recognition of Australia’s love affair with the enduring pop contest.

Mauboy will perform during the second semi-final in Denmark in May as the first solo artist from outside the European Union to perform at Eurovision.

News Corp reports organisers sent a delegation recently to meet with Mauboy, who wrote a new song with Potbelleez writer Ilan Kidron, as yet untitled.

The up-tempo song will also be released online immediately after the performance, proving a powerful launching pad for a European fan base. Eurovision is seen by more than 180 million viewers.

Julia Zemiro and Sam Pang will again lead SBS’ broadcast which culminates on Sunday May 11th.

  1. So excited for Jess! What a brilliant opportunity for her. Hope it brings her a legion of European fans. She is so talented, she deserves to be an international superstar.

I love the way the ESC has given Australia a special shout out over the last couple of years. 🙂

  2. I sincerely hope they do not take this seriously – it’s too good a chance to miss. At a minimum, I think they should be aiming for an inexplicable outfit, two backing dancers carrying inanimate objects, and not one but two key changes during the song.

If we’re going to do this, we should do it right!

    That statement’s not correct:
Israel isn’t in the EU but has competed at Eurovision since 1973.
    Morocco has also competed.
Switzerland isn’t a member of the EU either.

They are, however, members of the European Broadcasting Union, which organises the contest.
