MotoGP returns to FOX Sports

FOX Sports reaches an agreement to sublicense MotoGP from TEN.

2014-03-22_0327Motorcycle road racing championship, MotoGP, will return to FOX Sports this season after an agreement was reached with the TEN Network to sublicense MotoGP.

Under the new agreement, FOX Sports will simulcast all MotoGP category races in the 2014 season Live with TEN.

FOX Sports will also broadcast all races from the Moto2 & Moto3 categories and all practice, and qualifying practices from all 18 Grands Prix in the MotoGP World Championship Live. This coverage will be Exclusive to FOX Sports for all Grands Prix outside of Australia.

FOX Sports CEO, Patrick Delany, said: “Following the recent announcement of our V8 Supercars coverage which commences in 2015, this is another enormous coup for motorsport fans.

“In 2014 there will be more coverage of MotoGP than there has ever been on Australian television on FOX SPORTS.

“MotoGP is the world’s most popular two-wheels racing championship and beginning with this weekend’s opening round in Qatar, fans will see every race from every round, including all championship races, support categories, practice, and qualifying events LIVE with no interruptions during the action.

“FOX Sports has every motorsport fan covered. The best local product in V8 Supercars from 2015 and the best from around the world now including MotoGP, NASCAR, Indycar and the Superbike World Championship, all LIVE in High Definition,” said Delany.

FOX SPORTS previously broadcasted MotoGP from 1997 through 2009. The Ten Network has carried the championship since 2004 and exclusively on Australian television since 2010.

The 2014 MotoGP season got underway this morning (AEDT) with the Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar. All eyes will be on Aussie Broc Parkes as he makes his MotoGP debut against the likes of current champion Marc Marquez (Spain) and multiple world champions Jorge Lorenzo (Spain) and Valentino Rossi (Italy).

  1. @davywg Well I’m sorry not all of us can afford Foxtel as a luxury.

I wish Ten just stuck to the same schedule as last year and the previous years where they would televise FP4, qualifying sessions, Moto3 and Moto2. Just when a talented Aussie rider rises up in Moto3 we can’t even support him without paying for it hence why plenty of fans out there are resorting to illegally downloading the races that aren’t televised.

I reckon scrap the Formula 1’s since they’re so damn boring now and bring back all the Motogp races since they’re twice as exciting.

  2. Just about freaking time foxtel gets motogp back from channel 10..i hate them televised motogp.. They always take a commercial break when the action started to get interesting.. Last Qatar racing when Bradl crashed and Marquez head to head with Rossi they had to take a freaking break. . By the time program back we missed every bit of it. .. They did it not once but twice.. Really pissed me off

  3. Very disappointed to see ONE HD(Ten) has on sold Moto GP qualifying, & Moto 3 & 2. What about all of us that don’t have or want Foxtel!!! It is way too expensive. We are very upset Moto GP lovers in this house

  4. @Shoudy Chen – no they shouldn’t as 7 or 9 wouldn’t be interested at all by buying the rights to MotoGP judging by its ratings outside of Australia. Ten should keep it for One to be the ‘Home of Motorsport’
@laurie – yes but SPEED won’t show the press conference after the MotoGP race as it will be on ONE
@glennc – yes in a way but Ten sub-licensed MotoGP to SPEED, as people only tune in to the big race (MotoGP) as they would skip qualifying and support races for MotoGP. I doubt anyone would care for Moto2 and Moto3 races. I think the rumours are correct for News Corp to take over TEN, as TEN has became so cheap for anyone to buy it

  5. @William Network Ten just did nearly remove MotoGP. They onsold everything they were allowed too except the other 17 races. They’ve gone from generally live quali and live races (all 3 classes) to showing just the main category live.

IMO, just another sign Network Ten is being shaped up to sell.

  6. “…this is another enormous coup for motorsport fans.”
No, it’s a coup for Foxtel. The qualifying sessions never rated very well but they will now only be available to the less than 30% who have Foxtel so it’s hardly a coup for the rest.

@William – that is hopeful speculation (again). You don’t know whether Ten will want to pay for MotoGP beyond 2014 given its low ratings (except Phillip Island). Plus, they will prob have to buy Moto2 and 3 as well unless MotoGP is offered on its own.

  7. @glennc – I doubt they would get rid off MotoGP, particularly in Phillip Island as it leads in Ten’s News. Ten does have a point in regards to ratings about other classes as they simply don’t rate outside of Australia. To me MotoGP will still remain on Ten beyond this year, as it is their last year with MotoGP this year

  8. Are Network Ten selling off the rest of the sport they have? Apparently the MLB and NFL are gone and now the near removal of MotoGP. Doesn’t leave much!
It’s good news for Foxtel by the way.

  9. Great to see yet another code that has agreed to be simulcast by FOX Sports. The public who don’t have Foxtel can still see the all important races, and those with Foxtel can see those as well as additional races live and in HD (and without ad breaks from the sounds of the article?). Not only that, it’s great to see that FOX Sports Australia Ltd. are showing the races on SPEED. When the deal for the V8’s was made there was no mention of SPEED, leading to speculation it will close like SPEED U.S., but now that we know FOX Sports are still giving SPEED motorsport content it is a good sign for it’s future. If only there was more premium content they could get for Fuel TV (another U.S. brand that has closed).

  10. Now fox sports, do the same deal with Ten on Formula 1. Pick up some of the programs from the sky sports f1 channel and the motor racing portfolio will be complete. Well done on the motogp deal.
