STUDIO announces winner of promo contest

Video: Visual artist John Gosper wins $10,000 for designing a channel promo for STUDIO.

2014-03-11_1009STUDIO last night announced visual artist John Gosper as the winner of its annual Create STUDIO competition.

The Melbourne-based artist won $10,000 and a mentorship opportunity for his original commercial, ‘High Speed Sculpture Deconstruction.’

His 30-second promo created the STUDIO logo letters with various materials including paper, plastic, plaster of Paris and ice – all of which are destroyed in different ways, in super slow-motion and reverse.

“The whole process has been so exciting and fun. When I heard about the Create STUDIO competition, I really spent a lot of time trying to figure out how I was going to resolve my practice with the rules of the competition, and then I had this light bulb moment – I knew exactly how I was going to create my brand commercial, and I’m so proud it was the winning commercial this year,” he said.

“I feel so overwhelmed to have been chosen as the winner of Create STUDIO. I want to thank STUDIO for their guidance and mentorship, along with The Loop and Foxtel for this wonderful opportunity.”

Other finalists included Sydney’s Brian Neong San’s Special Effects Animation, and Melbourne’s Annelise Keestra’s Interactive Light Installation. They win $1000 prize money and will also have their commercials screened throughout the year.
