Sunday Night without the Schapelle interview

Sunday Night's story on Schapelle Corby had to settle for an interview with sister Mercedes Corby.

2014-03-02_2320_001In the end Sunday Night‘s story on Schapelle Corby had to settle for an interview with sister Mercedes Corby.

Instead it showed footage of Schapelle on the day of her release and at the Seminyak Villa which Seven has paid for.

“I feel that now she really relies on me,” Mercedes told Mike Willesee.

“She has had to rely on me so she has lost her strength.

“She was such a strong person before.

“She is different.”

“All those rumours that have been said about my dad are wrong,” she said.

“They are untrue and if my dad was alive now, they would have never been published.

“They would have never been said because he could defend himself.

“I don’t know who put it in that bag but I am pretty sure something to do with someone who worked in the airports,” Mercedes said.

”She’s still young enough to have a life. I am sure she will meet a nice man. She will become a mother. Yeah, I think it will all be all right.”

News Corp reports, three members of Corby’s parole team made a special visit to Corby at the villa. They were assured the interview would be with Mercedes only. Justice Ministry officials will scrutinise the program and report to Jakarta about its contents.

Sunday Night executive producer Mark Llewellyn told Fairfax he was hopeful of running an interview with Corby one day.
”My oath, if she’s allowed to,” Llewellyn said.

  1. They’re just going to have to be patient & wait till she’s safely back home in Australia. She can’t say anything that will jeopardise her parole while she’s still stuck over there in Indonesia.

  2. @Beckala @Harry @anybody else – how long have you guys been not watching commercial TV? This is how it always is, just look at, well, any Seven promo – massive overhype, saturation advertising, misleading footage, voiceover with affected gravitas telling us that we won’t believe what will happen. The only thing I have trouble believing is how many people get sucked in with this BS again and again.

  3. I watched it. It must be the first time I’ve watched anything on 7, 9 or 10 in years!
And I was very happy with it – the last thing I wanted was for Schapelle to risk her freedom, so it was good that her sister did the talking.
To see Schapelle free at last, walking on the beach, swimming etc made me very very happy!
    Thank you channel 7!

  4. I can’t think of another time when a complete non event has been so overhyped. Thankyou Australia for your commonsense not to watch it. Why do they insist on telling us she hadn’t been paid??? Anyway, I hope they’re happy. Blunder of the year

  5. As soon as mike Willisee started , he said Chappelle has not been paid . I wouldn’t mind 7 paying for my holiday apartment @ $600 / night. Mike you have nosedived in my opinion. You also lied outright when you said ” it was only a coincidence you were at that resort ‘ what other goodies have you given or promised her ?

  6. I refused to watch this show but honestly, how can anyone have thought I was going to be anything but a few cobbled together tidbits with a couple of new photos that were overhyped. I’m sure that if you saw the promos then you saw the “best” bits.

  7. I watched this, what a con! A few pics of Schapelle and a short interview with her tragic sister. It will rate well but in the end, Sunday Night will pay the price, you can’t cheat your viewers or they will never trust you again.

  8. For the amount of advertising, that was quite a let down. Barely ten minutes. I knew that they weren’t going to be showing the interview obviously, but the hyperbole used in the advertisements made me think that it’d be a significant story.
