ABC’s The Code sold to Sundance Channel

The buzz is gathering on ABC1's new conspiracy thriller ahead of MIPTV in Cannes next week.

2014-01-30_2345Upcoming ABC1 series, The Code, has been sold to the Sundance Channel in Latin America, The Audience Network in the US and Denmark’s public broadcaster DR.

The conspiracy thriller, starring Dan Spielman, Ashley Zukerman, Lucy Lawless, Adam Garcia, David Wenham, and Aden Young, tells the story of two very different brothers who unearth information that those at the highest levels of political power will kill to keep secret.

The 6 part series from Playmaker Media has its international launch at MIPTV in Cannes next week.

Distributor DCD Rights CEO Nicky Davies Williams said: “This internationally relevant drama is a fantastic new addition to our scripted offering. It has all the ingredients for success, such as a burning topic, solid on/off screen talent and the high-quality production values that have propelled Australian drama’s reputation around the world.”

Created by Shelley Birse and co-written by Birse, Blake Ayshford and Justin Monjo, it will air on ABC1 later this year.

ABC1’s Brendan Dahill told TV Tonight earlier this year it was his “sleeper” hit of the year.

“It trawls from Canberra to metro and the outback. There are some beautiful, quintessentially –but not archetypal- back scenes with the red and the blue. Because a lot of it is about computer hacking they’ve brought that to life in a really amazingly rich and visual way, rather than just staring at a computer screen. It’s almost filmic in the way they’ve pulled it together,” he said.
