Airdate: ANZAC: Celebrating Our Heroes

This week NITV is paying tribute to the military efforts of Indigenous people.

2014-04-22_1531All this week NITV is paying tribute to the military efforts of Indigenous people with a series of ANZAC: Remembering Our Heroes 15-minute documentary specials.

Between April 21-25, the series of home-grown documentaries will spotlight ten Indigenous stories from across the land through touching personal accounts and family memories.

The 100-year-old Mr. Stephens, one of the last few remaining soldiers of the Torres Strait Light Infantry Battalion still alive, talks about his long-serving military experiences and Dorothy Burton, daughter of Reginald Saunders, remembers her father as one of the most highly ranked Aboriginal officers.

We also hear from the Mayor of Thursday Island and Navy veteran Colin Watego, who explores his life as part of the third generation of his family involved in defence, following his Grandfather’s involvement in WW1, his father in WW2, and then himself in the Timor Corps.

The series will broadcast daily between 6-6.30pm with an additional broadcast, 8-10.30pm on ANZAC Day.

Monday-Friday, 21-25 April at 6.00pm on NITV.
