Craig Ferguson to exit Late Late Show
Craig Ferguson will step down from The Late Late Show in December.

US talk show host Craig Ferguson has announced that he will step down from The Late Late Show in December.
“CBS and I are not getting divorced, we are ‘consciously uncoupling,’ but we will still spend holidays together and share custody of the fake horse and robot skeleton, both of whom we love very much,” Ferguson told his studio audience.
Ferguson has been the show’s host since succeeding Craig Kilborn in January 2005, with his contract set to expire later this year.
After CBS announced Stephen Colbert as the replacement for David Letterman, contractual details of Ferguson’s clause to net a ‘pot of cash’ should the network look elsewhere, became public.
But Ferguson had also congratulated Colbert on the appointment both through social media and on his show.
Ferguson airs in Australia on ELEVEN.

And on the night he announces this, Eleven have a late schedule change and throw on an extra episode of Sex and the City, pushing this well past midnight.
Sad to lose Craig’s show and The Colbert Report.
@Sydney2K – I like to think that he’d be aiming one step higher.
Well, there’s nothing to stop him being a companion to Peter Capaldi’s Doctor in next year’s season of Doctor Who now.
And Ten (in their infinite wisdom) often run Letterman and The Late Late Show at the same time time on the primary channel and Eleven. Yes folks, they run these 2 shows against each other.
Originally they dovetailed, but now I agree it risks cannibalising. Letterman should be the priority.
Really tried to like Jimmy Fallon….light entertainment in that time slot…but just cannot take to him…or his sidekick.
Damn, this sucks…. First we loose Conan, than Dave announces he’s going and now Craig…. All the while we get stuck with Fallon who is about as funny as a wet fart…. or Rove.
I wish we could get Jimmy Kimmel here.

I am very sad to see him go, his style of show is extremely refreshing in the late night market, and cant beat his sense of humour, very different to the other american style talk shows!
I’d love to see Ellen take up a late night spot! She’s already in LA and would be awesome in this type of show away from the limitations of daytime.

This sucks! It took me a long time to get into the late late show but ever since he started using the robot and horse, the show has been a highlight of my late night viewing. First Letterman now Ferguson. Sad.
I will miss my fix of Craig,Geoff & Horse. I really don’t think we will see his style again and for the longest time, have been surprised that hollywood allowed such a free spirit. Most of the other late night shows are so scripted and frankly old and boring.
Ferguson was very good on The Drew Carey Show, but I find his interview style awkward and uncomfortable. Even the guests sometimes are uncomfortable. He is a very funny man, but not so great as a talk show host.
Those suggesting that the writing was on the wall when Colbert was announced as Letterman’s replacement have it wrongs. Ferguson has wanted to leave for months, wants to go out before he stops enjoying himself.
CBS and Ferguson decided on Dec so that the cast/crew have a chance to get other positions.
I watch very little of any of the late night talk shows, but from what I did see of Craig it was rather funny but not as much as Jimmy Fallon. My only concern is what this will mean for ELEVEN’s late night slot – whether the show will continue to be shown despite a change in host, if they will look for another show (e.g. Jimmy Kimmel, Conan, etc.), move Letterman/Stephen from TEN to ELEVEN, or simply drop the series altogether?
Craig is also my top talk show, shame to see him going and they couldn’t work something out. Wonder what his future plans will be. Another TV show or maybe some movies?
Hope he gets a big pot of cash for his years of service and not succeeding Letterman.
I don’t mind Craig, but I always got the impression that he didn’t want to be there.
Sad very sad but saw this coming after Colbert got the main job.
Letterman announcing his retirement before Ferguson’s contract expired at the end of the year forced CBS to act and invoked the “pot of cash” clause.
If CBS doesn’t think Ferguson is a good bet for a show before midnight there seems little point in him spending other 8 years hosting a crappy late, late talk-show.
When Letterman steps down in 2015 World Wide Pants deal to produce the shows goes with him. CBS are expected to bring them in-house.
His show is riotously hilarious. Very sad to see him go.
Such a shame. Craig is my favourite Late Nite host. Won’t be the same without him. Wonder if Geoff the Robot Skeleton (Josh Robert Thompson) and Secretariat will leave too.
