Farscape: the Movie?

It ran on Nine from 1999 to 2003, and now Australian-US sci-fi series is in development for a feature revival.

2014-04-23_0205Farscape creator Rockne O’Bannon has confirmed a movie adaptation of the Australian-filmed science fiction series is in the works.

Farscape, in which a diverse group of characters traveled through space to outrun the militaristic Peacekeepers, aired on Syfy from 1999 to 2003, first on Nine and the Canadian YTV channel, then on the Sci-Fi Channel and BBC2.

TV.com has previously reported Justin Monjo had written a script for a Farscape movie and Brian Henson was set to direct with the Jim Henson Creature Shop facilities.

Rockne O’Bannon, (Defiance, Revolution) has confirmed the project is in development.

“We’re far from production, but yeah, the first step is Justin [Monjo] working on a script for us. We’ll keep our fingers crossed,” he confirmed at WonderCon.

Monjo has written for Never Tear Us Apart: The Story of INXS, Paper Giants, Rush, Bait and Farscape.

The original cast included Ben Browder, Claudia Black, Virginia Hey, Anthony Simcoe, Gigi Edgley, Paul Goddard, Lani Tupu, Wayne Pygram, and Jonathan Hardy.

  1. I liked SeaQuest back in the day but I was much younger. Love Farscape even with Nine screwing it up in the end. A movie would be interesting, hope it goes well and we get more.

  2. Not a fan of ‘Farscape’-I thought Claudia and Ben were far better served on ‘Stargate SG-9’-I would much rather see a movie made to finish ‘Stargate Universe’, a much better and harder edged series (and much more recent).

  3. Yeah, as others have said, Ed Shrinker needs to check his facts because some of them aren’t. And no mention of SeaQuest? Fair enough, it was awful.

    1. Thanks I have deleted Warehouse 13 reference. I was talking about SeaQuest DSV with friends on the weekend re Roy Scheider and poor Jonathan Brandis. We all agreed the talking dolphin was stoopid.

  4. He writes for Revolution and has been an EP.

He is EP for Defiance. Though Defiance was created as a Video Game/TV universe developed my many people including O’Bannon.

He has no connection to Warehouse 13. It was created and pitched by Espenson and Mote but substantially reworked before it went into production. Jack Kenny is the showrunner.
