Nine plays silly buggers with Big Bang premieres

New eps over "3 big nights" become "2 big nights" after Nine reacts to Seven's plans.

sheldon-cooper-the-big-bang-theory-Favim.com-590919Big Bang Theory fans have every right to be confused by Nine’s programming as it sends out conflicting messages about its plans for next week.

Nine had been promising the show over “three big nights,” subsequently releasing scheduling info for three brand new episodes next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

But after Seven released its plans for its My Kitchen Rules finale on Tuesday, Nine made a swift change with a revamped promo promising “two big nights” with a repeat quietly slipped into Tuesday.

Updated: TV Tonight understands however, new episodes are now scheduled for 7:30pm Monday, Wednesday and 8pm Thursday.

The changes appear to be happening faster than the Promo team can produce the ads.

  1. You mean they are twisting the promo too suit there own agenda, I’m shocked. Nine has a one track mind when it comes to this show, each week someone is going to break up. I hate the one where they suggested Penny was going to sleep with Sheldon.

  2. Well during the Logie Red Carpet, they advertised three episodes for here in Adelaide. They are falsely advertising it as though the one storyline crosses over the three episodes, and the storyline they are trying to create is doesn’t even exist.
Exactly the reasons why I don’t watch US and UK shows on FTA and obtain it elsewhere.

  3. Yet another reason I’ve given up on shows like this from the commercial channels, TEN is doing likewise with the ‘Aussie’ Modern Family skipping 2 eps to fast track the Aussie one that aired this week in the US.

Just get the DVDs at the end of the season an binge watch them all in one weekend.

  4. @jvanzoe Yeah, cos 7 don’t do exactly the same thing!
    Bones.
    Sunday Night.
    How I Met Your Mother.
    Agents of Shield.
And that’s just off the top of my head!
Simple fact is, all three commercial networks seem to think we have nothing better to do as viewers than to chase the shows we want to watch around their ever changing schedules!

  5. I’m not surprised. It shows channel 9 doesn’t know what they are doing. That’s why I have avoided channel 9 my whole life and stuck with the best channel, Channel 7 🙂

  6. It was exactly this sort of nonsense from Nine that killed BBT (and several other Nine network programs) for me, I stopped watching it yonks ago. I simply gave up trying to follow when they were new episodes and when it was repeats, too many last minute changes and endless mucking about with the schedule.

  7. Nine were planning to show TBBT against the final of MKR when they thought it was Wednesday. It is the huge ratings MKR is delivering with the Block to peg it back a bit that scared Nine off showing it on Tuesday.

A fairly sensible decision since half of Nine’s audience would timeshift or catch-up TBBT while the MKR Final is on.

  8. @ stevie g

The guide used on the Tivo knows about repeats and new episodes It’s not 100% accurate, but it catches the majority. One of the few things I can say in its favour.

If you have a PVR that uses the broadcast EPG, set it to only record when it sees the string “Big Bang Theory – New”, assuming your PVR has a series record option. That’s how Nine list the new episodes in the EPG lately. Unfortunately if you use a ‘processed’ version of the EPG, such as seen on the IQ or the TBox, you’re likely out of luck.

  9. Actually David, the article closes with Tue, Wed & Thu… As Bradley said, it’s Mon, Wed and Thu… This is what None are *currently* showing for *new* episodes of BBT anyway.

In fact according to the broadcast EPG (the gold standard) it’s Mon 19:35, Wed 19:30 and Thu 20:00 (and I’m sure the times for Wed & Thu will update closer to the day of broadcast)

  10. I love this show but hate chasing it around the EPG on the T-Box to record new episodes. I won’t use Series Record because there’s far too many repeats airing all the time. Does my head in!
Thanks David for always keeping us up to date as humanly possible.

  11. @stevie g Foxtel IQ on FTA can’t distinguish between new shows and repeats. It can with Foxtel related shows. I know with Orphan Black on SBS2 it recorded the series weekly, then it recorded the first series again when they put it on prior to the second series starting. It’s very annoying. Another thing that happens is that if a last minute change occurs then the EPG does not pick it up or it loses the series link.

  12. So annoying. Can anyone with a Foxtell IQ tell me, does it actually find all new episodes of BBT. I have often wondered how it would differentiate b/w new eps and repeats. It would sure have a workout with nines erratic scheduling.

  13. And once again they are promoting it as a “big event’. No it’s not, its lasy programming of two standard non story line changing episodes.
