Returning: House Rules

With no sign of that singing show yet, Seven moves on its House Rules launch.

2014-04-22_2337Seven has announced its House Rules premiere to air 7:30pm Wednesday April 30, the night after its My Kitchen Rules grand final (should we get ready for Backyard Rules and My Street Rules next?).

It continues 8pm Thursday May 1.

The surprise announcement changes Seven’s previous schedule, already sent to some print guides. Those indicated Highway Patrol would air.

Whether this was Seven’s plan all along is unclear, but the clear air from The Voice would have been a key factor in Seven’s strategy.

Nine had held off its singing show until MKR was over -it’s now tipped for May 4 or 5.

Getting House Rules off to a good start is crucial after last year’s underwhelming launch, and better to go sooner than later in my view.

The number one new reality show of 2013 is back. Get ready to see six new teams from around Australia go on a ride of a lifetime, putting their homes on the line and skills to the test, as they battle it out to become mortgage free.

Together, they’ll travel the country, hand over the keys to their homes and leave their competition rivals to transform every room in their house.

With host Johanna Griggs at the helm again this year, six brave teams will gamble with the most important possession in their lives.

Acclaimed designer Carolyn Burns-McCrave and build supervisor Chester Drife will be overseeing the teams, who have
only one week to completely transform each home.

Guided by just five House Rules, the teams will each be given a designated zone in the house to work on and they must draw on all their creative talents, determination and strategy to achieve the most stunning transformations.

Two expert judges – architect Joe Snell and Home Beautiful editor Wendy Moore – will score each teams’ renovation. But the last word will go to the home owners.

Without knowing who was responsible for each zone – the home owners will score them all. Will they love or loathe what they see?

Scores will be revealed at Homebase, where eliminations will also take place. In a jaw-dropping final, the last two teams face-off for the chance to walk away with their entire mortgage paid off in full.

  1. @nikc agreed! It does seem like with the constant competitive moves by each network they are ‘cutting off their nose to spite their face’ so to speak.

  2. So will the houses begin renovations on Wed so the reveals are on Tuesdays?
Or will they muck about to have the reveals on Sundays?
Already seems they are jumping the gun on their competitor (which they need) and will then chop and change to get a higher rating reveal episode by changing the programming schedule!
Am I the only one who wants consistency?

  3. I’m glad the networks aren’t putting the same genre against each other this year!
I was torn between block and house rules last year and this time I can happily watch both.
