I suspect the reason Eastenders was not in the Top 20 is due to no one knowing when it was on at 6.50pm. This month UKTV moved it from 8pm to 6.50pm. However the Foxtel magazine listings say 7.20pm and theres a soap article in the mag saying 8pm. I dont like the new times of 6.20 Corrie 6.50 Eastenders as you ha e to miss 10 mins of other programmes to tune in on time.

  2. catherine May 6, 2014 at 6:18 pm -

Masterchef will get better once the contestants are picked and they get into the challenges.

  3. Lincoln May 6, 2014 at 6:11 pm -

    Revenge is slipping :/

  4. marc May 6, 2014 at 6:10 pm -

The Block wasn’t on this time. Looks like HR lost air pretty soon

  5. alvar May 6, 2014 at 5:47 pm -

House Rules is again being propped up by Seven’s loyal audience in Perth. 200,000 is huge for Perth and helps the show to stay above the 1m mark nationally.

  6. Rutzie May 6, 2014 at 5:41 pm -

Little bit of a concern for Seven that the ‘Whole House Reveal’ episode of HR rated the same as the normal episodes. I think they would’ve been expecting closer to 1.5m last night.

  7. marc May 6, 2014 at 4:49 pm -

Wow I MasterChef has the biggest post production with the biggest team working on a their shows. It’s somewhat good what they scored. I assume that’s a sign that it was worth it investing in research. I just hope they can keep these numbers.

  8. matthewh87 May 6, 2014 at 2:07 pm -

I hope house rules picks up. It’s a good show with good personalities and it deserves to rate . MasterChef is ok . I think the voice is terrible !! The talent is rubbish , the judges are rubbish , the stories are poorly produced and predictable. But what do I know. Judging by the ratings Australia enjoys to sit there and have its intelligence insulted

  9. Sunny May 6, 2014 at 1:46 pm -

Ratings for Masterchef Australia were a bit disappointing. Would have expected at least 1M. Saw some of MCA during the breaks on The Voice, and thought it was quite good. I reckon MCA will slowly rise to over the million mark as viewers of that terrible House Rules show on 7 drift across to watching MCA on TEN.

  10. andrewb May 6, 2014 at 1:30 pm -

While they generally do well in ratings, the problem with all these reality shows is they are growing longer and longer asking for more and more of a commitment from viewers.

Between Mchef, HR and Voice, they add up to close to 24 hours in a week combined.

Have no interest in HR as renovating a house is a week is unrealistic, The Voice I watched part of the first ep for Kylie and not gone back and Mchef just seems toooo long over 90 minutes – even if fast forwarding through all the ads…

  11. WolfieBoy May 6, 2014 at 1:22 pm -

@Secret Squirrel – Ten will be reluctant to shuffle program starting times around, especially The Project which rates steady with some slight increases now and again.

Why would they want to destroy that slow improvement by moving it to start at 6pm or make it half hour. I would hope they leave that alone, for Ten’s recovery sake :-)

  12. WolfieBoy May 6, 2014 at 1:18 pm -

Masterchef had a much better start due to the new starting concept and not that stupid male/female competition from last year.

That can only help the show to grow after this very good start against strong competition.

When the hosts eat all the food on some plates then that food must be very good. Looking forward to watching this years bunch of amateur cooks create some wonderful meals.

Ten and Shine have woken up – lets hope this is not too late but we are hooked already :-)

By the way Shine produce The Voice and Masterchef. Shine is owned by News Corp.

  13. once-upon-a-time May 6, 2014 at 12:33 pm -

I may caught something at the last ‘ physic expo ‘ and even regardless that not one of the ‘physc’s’ knew I would be attending, but ever since I have become prone to predicting things, with a very similar strike rate as those ‘physc’s’ and also regardless how much I watch ‘TV4ME’.

So my next prediction for ‘House Rules’ is that ‘when ever possible’ the next couples house for renovation may be coincidentally the couple at or very near the top of the leaders board.

  14. Engine003 May 6, 2014 at 11:39 am -

Good numbers for MCA. It beat House Rules in Melbourne and in 16-39 demo, with only a small Sydney gap. The question is now whether they can hold that. Having Rove on The Project also seems to have helped, like it did with TWL.

  15. Secret Squirrel May 6, 2014 at 10:50 am -

I guess we’re all wondering what MC would have rated if it had started at 7pm?

@radiC00l – with nearly 15 million people in the 5 main capital cities, I’d say that most Australians prefer not to watch any “reality” TV at all.

  16. Jake S May 6, 2014 at 10:45 am -

David, re the ratings in Sydney for Roscoe’s funeral, is that higher or lower than what The Chase normally gets in that slot?

  17. David Knox May 6, 2014 at 10:38 am -

    35,000.

  18. avalaugh May 6, 2014 at 10:31 am -

David, how many Sydneysiders watched Rosscoe’s memorial service yesterday?

  19. barrington bumbaclaart May 6, 2014 at 10:25 am -

Just another cooking show. Just another renovation show. Just another talent quest. Yawn. No wonder Australia leads the world in illegal downloads.

  20. Pakes May 6, 2014 at 10:20 am -

I think the judges are doing what they do on the Voice. Trying to convince us that the claims that this season has the best contestants are true. It works on better on Masterchef as the audience cannot verify their claims. On the Voice it is completely ineffective as the audience can hear that those upon whom praise was heaped weren’t that great!

Also I am intrigued as to why comments are so positive about Masterchef’s ratings. They are better than TEN’s ordinary ratings, sure, but for the premiere of a flagship programme they are nothing to write home about. If I’m thinner than contestants on the biggest loser that doesn’t mean that I am necessarily thin! ha ha

  21. radiC00l May 6, 2014 at 10:15 am -

MCA did well. Beat HR in Melb and basically the same in Sydney.

Well deserved too as the ep was top notch. However, it makes me cringe to think that most Australians prefer the contrived MKR instead.

  22. Evan43 May 6, 2014 at 10:06 am -

Yeah, 800K for Masterchef is not too bad at all!
A little too many sob stories last night for me, and I got the impression that the judges are going out of their way to be extra positive and nice, drawing a contrast between themselves and MKR.
I am over all the family stuff, I want to see some real cooking.
Revenge? The series has lost it anyway, too convoluted, too many SLs going on at once, and is there anyone left for Emily to get revenge against?

  23. Den May 6, 2014 at 9:57 am -

That’s better than I expected to be honest
I predicted 600k debut and averaging 500k across the season.

The Project also received a lift out of it and for once TEN News not in the top 20 but TEN having two other programs there instead.

  24. JennyW May 6, 2014 at 9:52 am -

Seven have ruined Revenge! It’s time they get the show fast tracked and not have it compete with Love Child again next year.

I’ve noticed Y&R has been in the STV ratings these past couple of days but where is DOOL?!

  25. smit0847 May 6, 2014 at 9:45 am -

Wow I did not expect MCA to do that well. I was expecting 600k max for them.

I think 7 would be the most concerned after last night.

  26. kimbeth May 6, 2014 at 9:44 am -

Wow Masterchef rated very well considering the opposition.

  27. Bruce Banner May 6, 2014 at 9:39 am -

Not brilliant for MC, but not that bad… it should lift once the top 24 are revealed and cooking.
