A-League scores for SBS, FOX Sports.

Brisbane Roar's win was the most-watched A-League game ever on FOX Sports and took SBS 2 above SBS ONE.

The match pulled out 301,000 metro viewers for the Post Match coverage and 223,000 for the game, allowing SBS 2 to outrate SBS ONE last night.

The previous highest rating match was the opening round clash between Sydney FC and Newcastle Jets on 11th October at 166,000 metro viewers. It was also the first time that the A-League Grand Final has been broadcast on free-to-air.

Ken Shipp, Head of Sport said: “It has always been our mission to grow the game and with the Hyundai A-League Grand Final broadcast on free-to-air TV for the first time, the impact has been significant. Fans of the game will have access to even more football in just under four weeks when the SBS’s live and exclusive coverage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup begins.”

On FOX Sports, which had exclusive Live coverage, it was the most-watched A-League game ever.

FOX Sports CEO, Patrick Delany, said: “An amazing tribute to the A-League – two skilful and passionate teams that performed well right up until the last minute, spurred on by extraordinary fan support at the magical Suncorp Stadium – sports gold.

“These ratings for the Grand Final on subscription TV indicate that the A-League is coming of age as a major force in the Australian sports calendar.”

The Grand Final will be replayed today, 4:00pm on SBS 2.

  1. I have no problem with the soccer being on SBS2 or the HD channel. I hope they’ve got someone checking the EPGs when they swap over even if later on. Although with SBS being on time the TV Guides are fine. I just like looking up the EPGs rather than them being a make or break reason not to watch.

I’m going to admit I stopped watching SBS2 last year. There are some good things on there. But it’s too hard for me to watch them. I’m incompatible.

  2. It would of rated double that SBS 2 if it was shown live. Delayed telecasts of sports doesn’t work in an era where live scores are so readily available on iPhones and tablets.

  3. as much as I dislike delayed sporting events (I don’t like the finals agreement of this a-league for fta) in general, I do have to congratulate SBS2 for the numbers it got for the grand-final. It even out-pipped SBS1, which indeed is a rare occurrence.

  4. In Perth the SBS’ coverage of the final went up against The West Coast Vs Fremantle AFL game which was shown live in WA. Hence why the low numbers for Perth viewers for the A Leauge.
