Airdate: State Of Origin 2014

Here comes Origin 2014 and here's where you can watch it right around the country.

946705-origin-iNRL celebrates 100 Games of State of Origin when the 2014 series begins at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane next week.

Mal Meninga’s XXXX Queensland Maroons are hungry for their ninth consecutive Origin series win over the New South Wales VB Blues whose coach, Laurie Daley, is under enormous pressure to turn the tide.

As part of the celebrations for 100 Games of Origin the on-field, pre-match entertainment will include a salute to 25 of the biggest stars in Origin history, starting with the great Arthur Beetson. The finest moments, the most scintillating tries and the legendary gladiators will all be remembered in spectacular pictures projected onto the field, with Ray Warren narrating the special tribute, accompanied by a 50-piece live orchestra.

Warren, the voice of rugby league, will again lead Nine’s commentary team, calling his 76th Origin match. Joining him for the live broadcast will be Wally Lewis, Darren Lockyer, Gorden Tallis and Paul Vautin in the Maroon corner, with Peter Sterling, Andrew Johns, Brad Fittler and Phil Gould representing the Blues. Cameron Williams will steer the Wide World of Sports team through the clash at Suncorp while Ken Sutcliffe will cross live before the game for Nine News.

Wide World of Sports will have unprecedented access to both teams when Paul Vautin and Phil Gould take viewers inside the inner sanctum of the dressing sheds moments before kick-off to get the final word from both coaches.

Channel Nine’s telecast will again be enhanced by a 2014 Holden State of Origin “second screen experience” via the network’s 9jumpin.com.au website and app. 9jumpin offers state-of-the-art features which let you be your own video ref, including 16 multi-camera angles for viewing and slow-motion replays of match highlights just moments after the action is broadcast live on Nine.

9jumpin also include live scores, live match and player statistics, player profiles and the inaugural 9jumpin Tweet of Origin – a battle off the field for footy fans.

ANZ Stadium in Sydney will host Origin II on Wednesday, June 18, and Origin III will be played at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Wednesday, July 9. Both games will be broadcast exclusively live on Channel Nine.

  1. People in Adelaide don’t even know what Rugby League is? That’s Right, there showing the Game Only. I doubt that’ll rate well there Unlike Sydney and Brisbane which it’ll Huge Ratings.

  2. I think this is rather sad. The State Of Origin cult has lost its congregation. They’re even discounting the tickets in Brisbane. As far as Nine going on a nostalgia trip because it is the 100th game, please say it isn’t so. Nine has already replayed the alleged “golden moments” many times over. The player waving his finger after scoring, the player yelling “Queenslander”, the two players face to face before brawling on the field – yawn, yawn and yawn. I’d like Nine to show some of the other “highlights” – the Qld trainer in the change room putting black tape over the camera lens while the players were changing, the player telling the reporter to “f*** off” when approached with the mic and cameraman, Mal Meninga repeatedly using the F word while being secretly filmed firing up his players, the embarrassing sketch showing Daryl Brohman in drag as Martin Bella’s…

  3. Hey what happened to Origin being in 3D. I remember Channel Nine telling viewers it was going to revolutionize viewing sport at home. Now its pretty much gone without a trace. Oh well, I’m sure another technological fad will come along and die the same way.

  4. Once again presented in SD only (except WA). Doesn’t matter too much for the cockroach fans. They’ll have tears in their eyes from kick off to full time.

Go the mighty maroons. Nine years in a row.
