MasterChef, Offspring bear the good news.

Ratings: A Wednesday double brings the beleaguered TEN a ray of sunshine, but Seven wins the night.

2014-05-22_0944After a bad news day, MasterChef (928,000) and Offspring (817,000) brought some good news for TEN, helping the network to a good share for the evening.

Ironically, on the day the network announced the end for Wake Up the show lifted from its 30,000 average to 47,000 -but that’s still not enough to save it.

Elsewhere Million Dollar Minute won again, When Love Comes to Town dipped and Jonah from Tonga improved on last week’s terrible numbers.

But it was Seven that won the night.

Seven network won with a 31.2% share then Nine 26.1%, TEN 21.2%, ABC 15.8% and SBS 5.7%.

Seven News was #1 at 1.34m / 1.2m for Seven then House Rules (1.27m), Home and Away (951,000), Million Dollar Minute (791,000) and The Blacklist (765,000). The Killer Elite movie was 257,000.

Nine News (1.15m / 1.1m) was best for Nine then A Current Affair (1.07m), Hot Seat (652,000), When Love Comes to Town (647,000), Big Bang (493,000 / 413,000) and Mom (483,000).

The Project was 652 / 452,000 for TEN, TEN Eyewitness News was 604,000 and The Good Wife was 373,000.

ABC News (762,000) led ABC1 then 7:30 (681,000), QI (605,000), Spicks and Specks (490,000), QI 6:30 (351,000), Jonah from Tonga (348,000) and a repeat of Upper Middle Bogan (212,000).

Walking Through History, which has aired on Foxtel, is doing well for SBS ONE at 362,000. Next were One Born Every Minute (192,000), SBS World News (126,000) and  The Bridge (123,000).

Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom topped multichannels at 331,000.

Sunrise: 356,000

  1. When TEN have Elementary on 475,000 for Sunday, 24: Live Another Day on 345,000 for Monday and NCIS on 682,000 for Tuesday, I really don’t think TEN would be at all concerned with Offspring’s numbers.

Also if you consider those shows above are 8:30pm shows, then though The Good Wife’s figures are low they aren’t that far off them for a 9:30pm show.

  2. Offspring numbers are still good. The second episode last year had 798 000, so it’s still better. Remember online catch ups for Offspring are usually quite big as well. The premiere last week was their biggest since season 2. Yes Origin will effect the numbers, but Offspring fans are loyal.

I hope ten can renew it for at least one more season, but I guess it will depend on the availability of the cast.

So far the first two episode have been very good, and if it continues like this it could be the best season since season 2.

  3. Am really worried about Offspring (plus puberty blues and The Good Wife), those are low numbers.. I hope these shows can go elsewhere if we lose ten altogether.

  4. Don’t bother watching Master Chef at night. Is repeated next afternoon. Then, will be a 3rd run on the weekend. Same for 7 & 9 offerings. Lunacy. At least it’s something to watch on the weekend I guess.

  5. Some of Wake Up’s best figures, if only it had consistently rated around those figures from the start and steadily increased.. wonder what the figures will be like today & tomorrow for their final shows.

David, how did Studio 10 rate?
