Sherlock closer to fourth series renewal

The signs look good for a fourth series renewal of Sherlock at the BBC.

2014-05-20_0004The signs look good for a fourth series renewal of Sherlock at the BBC.

At the BAFTA Television Awards co-creator Mark Gatiss denied rumours of a single film idea, and said that a fourth series is still “the plan”.

“There was talk [of a single film, but] amongst people who have nothing to do with Sherlock, I’m afraid,” he told Digital Spy.

Gatiss, who also plays Mycroft Holmes on the series, confirmed the team are “moving closer to agreeing [shooting] dates”.

“Benedict (Cumberbatch) and Martin’s (Freeman) schedules, Steven’s (Moffatt, co-creator) schedule, my schedule, everybody’s schedule – it’s like a jigsaw puzzle,” he said.

“But both [Martin and Benedict] are really very keen to carry on and as I say, we have made progress.”

Fingers crossed.

  1. I just want to add that I agree with the fingers being crossed for renewal if that’s what is being decided as well as worked out. With as has been mentioned all the complications. It is a wonderful series that I hope can be continued.

Also thank you Pertinax for further clarification on how the BBC operates. I just hope it is availability that is the challenge here as it seem it should be with how it is done.

As for the last series I did think it the weakest. Also a bit of a self indulgence taken by the writers at times. But I still want to find out what will happen next.

Lastly I wish they’d include any prequel material on the DVD if there is any such material. Not everyone has access to wonderful internet. Also shouldn’t filmmakers encourage people not to download stuff? So therefore include important stuff on the DVD. Not happy about poor decisions being made on that…

  2. The BBC makes shows on a season by season basis. They don’t sign anybody to long-term contracts and have to negotiate for everybody to be available for each season.

The 3rd season was a sitcom parody of the show at times. I liked the structure and humour of the wedding episode though.

  3. Gotta say how much we’re enjoying Martin Freeman’s role in Fargo.

Well, I hope he continues in it as we’ve just started our Fargo binge from ep 1.

    Looks great.

  4. Thanks David. Although since they had a cliffhanger ending I thought it was happening. Although with the complication as you indicated that everyone is busy. I thought the plan was to have 5 series and then maybe individual stories over the years. If everyone is willing. That said it was awhile ago and the information might be wrong as it was from the internet.
