Grant Hackett returns to Wide World of Sports

Grant Hackett will return to Wide World of Sports following his rehabilitation and time in the headlines.

2014-06-08_0009Sports presenter and Olympian Grant Hackett will return to Wide World of Sports on Nine next Sunday, following his rehabilitation and surrounding media headlines.

Nine’s Head of Sport Steve Crawley said, “It will be great to have him back.

“It was never a case of if we would have him back, but when.

“He’s part of the Nine family and we look forward to having him back as co-host with Michael Slater.”

Hackett spent 5 weeks in a US rehabilitation clinic described in the Sunday Telegraph as a sleeping pill addiction which began during his swimming career. In 2013 he divorced wife Candice Alley, following a domestic dispute in 2011.

Hackett said, “When you have a life that is in the spotlight; and my personal life has obviously been really in the spotlight over the past few years, which has been unfortunate and a very stressful period; to have that normality again and for things to be functioning in a relatively stable state, it’s really nice.”

“I feel like I’ve really got through that now and I have a better understanding of myself and what I want and what’s important to me.”

Hackett has been with Nine since 2008, first presenting sports news on weekend news before moving to other sports roles.

Ahead of Nine’s 2012 Olympics broadcast he gave an interview to 60 Minutes “about his dramatic fall from grace, about the night he trashed his apartment, the collapse of his marriage and the allegations that he physically abused his wife.”

The interview was later viewed by lawyers for his ex-wife while Nine was criticised for not uploading the clip and transcript to its website.

  1. I really enjoyed his comments on Australian Story for Kerrin Perkins. He sounded a really nice, but competitive, person, with a wicked sense of humor. Good luck Grant with your recovery.
