NRL player calls reporter “a germ”

Rabbitoh's Ben Te'o has called a Nine News sports reporter "a germ," upset over allegations of which he was later cleared.

2014-06-05_1257South Sydney player Ben Te’o has called Nine News sports reporter Danny Weidler “a germ” after refusing to answer questions from him during a press conference yesterday, while announcing he would be leaving the Rabbitohs.

The rebuttal follows a Nine News report from Weidler last year during which he aired allegations of assault against Te’o.

Today Te’o told Weidler, “Nah, no questions from you.”

When another Nine reporter tried to ask the question Wediler’s behalf, it was still rejected.

“If that’s coming from him I’m not answering that one,” he said.

Later Te’o told Weidler directly, “Surely you know not to come ask me any questions — don’t ask me anything.”

“When I’m there don’t ask me nothing,” he said, referring to the media scrum.

“You’re a germ.”

The Australian today notes, an assault matter was investigated by Queensland police and the NRL’s Integrity Unit before Te’o was cleared. He said yesterday that he felt his innocence was not as well publicised as his alleged guilt.

“I cop it on social media; I’m not saying it’s consistent, but yeah, I get it on social media, people yell it, I get it at games … if people only knew the facts, but the facts aren’t always delivered in the media, you know what I mean?’’ he said.

  1. Teo is 100% right re Weedler.

With the exception of mundane, money bill, that rugby player and those on the nine payroll, not to many will talk to Weedler.
