US sitcom The Goldbergs begins on Seven this week, featuring a family in the 1980s videotaped by their youngest son Adam.
Seven screens Episode 1 at 8:45pm on Wednesday. A second episode will air at 9:15pm but this will be Episode 7.
Next week it airs Episode 8, followed by Episodes 2 and 11 a week later.
It’s hardly the first time networks have been guilty of this practice, but it’s a lot more difficult for them to slip them under the radar with net-savvy audiences.
@tvtonightau Hi! AFG, creator of the show here. I set my show in 1980something, so there is absolutely no sequence at all!

Seven Should’ve Tooken The Goldbergs very seriously, they did’nt and now I’m trying to Consist 7TWO to air Season Two in the Correct Order.
Well why would anyone watch things out of sequence if they have been screened in that sequence elsewhere. Just does not make sense.
This show looks even worse than the Millers, so I don’t care what order they show it in.
It’s the first season of a sitcom. There probably isn’t any major story arches so the show isn’t required to be shown in order.
It’s actually very rare for an Australian network to screen episodes out of the order they are distributed to them in. US episode guides and production numbers have been available for 20 years now, and I have only seen a couple of examples of it and its usually only delaying a bad episode or two not this big a reshuffling.
Like many sitcoms The Goldbergs took half-a-dozen episodes to find its feet. A few mediocre episodes at 9pm on Wednesday night would guarantee its relegation to a late night slot forever within 3 weeks.
David, what’s the main reason for this practice? Is it to maintain higher audiences? Are these more gripping episodes? It’s the only reason I can think they’d do this….
Simple question: why?
