TEN wants more Offspring, in talks for potential renewal.

TEN confirms it wants a sixth season of Offspring, and talking with producers to see if it can happen.

2014-06-19_2039Following TV Tonight‘s story earlier this week about the future of Offspring, TEN has confirmed it is keen for a sixth season.

In a statement Programming Chief Beverley McGarvey said, “Imogen Banks and John Edwards are the best in the business and we’re obviously very proud of everything that Offspring has achieved. Network TEN would, of course, like to proceed with series 6 and we are in discussions with the producers now.”

While TEN is clearly interested in more, increased costs appear to be the ultimate decider and just who will shoulder these is yet to be agreed upon.

Producer John Edwards recently told TV Tonight, “We don’t have an absolute view on it at all. I think the show is going extremely well.

“But there are all sorts of problems. It costs 30% more because we’re over 65 episodes.

“So it (costs more) already and there are up lifts on the cast. There are significant difficulties and there are scheduling difficulties because we’re doing things.

“But never say never.”

Offspring and MasterChef have been two of the network’s recent success stories.

TEN’s primary channel total people audience has increased by 38% over the past six weeks between 6-10:30pm, compared to the 10 weeks prior (excluding Easter) -a lift directly linked to both shows.

  1. Maybe Puberty Blues but TEN has said ”no” to another Biggest Loser. It rates so low but i guess it was against MKR which was a tough one.

However, I think they should put Biggest Loser after Masterchef though. However, it’s sad to see a good show go.

  2. I’m glad TEN is looking at getting another season of Offspring, but I hope there is another season of Puberty Blues and The Biggest Loser too.
