60 Minutes: July 13

Another Voice coach gets the 60 Minutes cross-promo treatment.

KYLIE_43.jpgAnother Voice coach gets the 60 Minutes cross-promo treatment, this time it’s Kylie, sitting down with Karl.

Kylie has always been very guarded in interviews, but I do get the impression she is relaxed about spending more time in Australia.

Gorilla Warfare
In the dark heart of Africa lies a place very few people have seen. It’s called Virunga. And it’s home to one of the last populations of mountain gorillas in the world. Despite decades of civil war and brutal poaching the gorillas are clinging on, protected by rangers who are literally prepared to die for the cause. Every month, a ranger gets killed by a poacher. Now a Belgian Prince has put himself between the gorillas and harm’s way, but he’s facing a new, more dangerous threat. Big oil is threatening to move into Africa’s oldest national park, and they’re much more brazen than the poachers.

The Coward
It is the story of our times: young men with a skin-full, randomly attacking innocent people, with catastrophic consequences. Michael McEwen is the victim of a sickening one punch attack, who’s surprised everyone with his will to live. But there’s another, rarely heard side of the story. Who are these violent young men who leave people like Michael fighting for life, and why do they do it? Well, one of these cowards has now shown considerable courage. Daniel Clementson is brutally honest about what drove him to almost kill someone with just one punch. It’s a confronting insight into the mind of an aggressor, when a moment of madness can change lives forever.

Kylie
Kylie Minogue has been part of our lives for nearly 30 years. She first burst onto the scene as Charlene in Neighbours, the tough, street-smart girl from Ramsay Street who took the knocks and dished them out. Now at 46, she’s a bonafide superstar, one of our greatest ever exports, but there’s still a lot of Charlene in Kylie. You see, deep down she’s still the girl from the suburbs of Melbourne, and more than ever she’s enjoying her return to Australia. Karl Stefanovic sat down with Kylie to reflect on her extraordinary life – some incredible professional highs, and some very tough personal lows. He found a woman of intelligence, beauty who’s at peace with her place in the world.

  1. Used to be a massive Kylie fan, but she’s become a caricature of herself, repeating everything she’s done over and over and over again, only with less quality and therefore less success. A career in reality tv is now her only real career option, which is a shame for someone who was on the cusp of taking over the pop world back in 2001.

  2. Kylie’s amazing and talented and works extremely hard – you don’t stay around for almost 30 years in the music business otherwise. I don’t see why everyone hates on her.

  3. The tall poppy syndrome is alive and well it seems… congratulations to Kylie for her incredible international success over almost three decades. Her sales may not be what’s they used to, but that’s life for an aging popstar I suppose! A number 1 Aus and 2 UK album 26 years in is nothing to be sneezed at!

  4. Poor Kylie. Her music career is at an all-time low. Her attempt to be relevant again by doing The Voice UK and Aus have royally failed. Sadly her botox and filler use at an all-time high. Shame.
