ABC: Centenary of the First World War

The ABC will broadcast coverage of events marking the 100th anniversary of the First World War.

2014-07-22_2338The ABC will broadcast special coverage of events marking the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War on Monday August 4 and Tuesday August 5.

Scott Bevan will lead the coverage on ABC News 24 with accompanying stories and background on ABC News Online.

In the first days of August, Scott will file stories from Germany leading up to live coverage of events in Glasgow, Belgium, London and Australia.

Scott Bevan will host a two-hour special program from Glasgow at 6pm AEST on Monday 4th August – including special guests and live coverage of the Commonwealth Service commemorating the anniversary and the contribution of Commonwealth countries.

From 4.30am AEST on Tuesday 5th August ABC News Breakfast will broadcast the international commemorative service from the St Symphorien Military Cemetery in Belgium, attended by Heads of State. This broadcast will also air at 4.30am nationally on ABC. From 7am AEST Scott Bevan will then anchor coverage of the candlelit vigil at Westminster Abbey.
