ABC picks up Happy Valley

ABC gains drama about a policewoman whose world turns upside down when the man responsible for her daughter’s death is released from prison.

Not quite all of BBC’s new dramas are headed to BBC First, with ABC picking up raw police drama Happy Valley.

The six part series written by Sally Wainwright, was produced by the UK’s Red Production Company and debuted on BBC1 in the UK earlier this year.

It stars Sarah Lancashire as police sergeant Catherine Cawood, whose world is turned upside down when the man she thinks is responsible for her daughter’s death is released from prison.

The series gets its title from what local police call the area because of its drug problem.

  1. Thought Foxtel’s BBC First only had first dibs on BBC drama made in-house only? Being that Happy Valley is made by external production house Red Productions, would that mean it is available on the open market?

  2. I have been in England and have seen the Happy Valley series. Sally Wainwright’s writing and Sarah Lancashire’s acting set the bar so high in this one that I doubt anyone else will reach the mark. Brilliant!
Any chance of the ABC getting their hands on Last Tango in Halifax series 3? Another brilliant Wainwright/Lancashire effort.

  3. I have seen the whole series and I tell you something……Everything was fantastic. I am not into Crime Drama like CSI but that because it is not CSI. It sees it from different points of view thru the series.

    Fantastic show.
