Airdate / Renewed: Please Like Me

ABC renews Josh Thomas’ comedy for a third season ahead of its second season premiere.

2014-07-13_0137ABC has renewed Josh Thomas’ comedy Please Like Me for a third season ahead of its second season premiere, in collaboration with US network, Pivot.

“I’m just thrilled ABC TV and Pivot are proceeding so confidently with Please Like Me”, says Thomas. “I think it’s such a lovely show. We learnt so much making Season 1 and I think we really stepped it up in Season 2, and will hopefully do the same in Season 3. Our team is just really terrifically good and everything is great and terrific.”

ABC Head of Comedy Rick Kalowski said, “ABC TV’s third season pickup of Please Like Me before season two even airs is unprecedented, and yet fitting for a show which has become our most watched original ABC2 comedy series, and put Australian TV comedy on the world stage as never before. ABC TV couldn’t be prouder to continue our association with Pivot in the US, or of the new season two, which is a cracker from start to finish.”

Pivot will also have the world television premiere of season two on August 8, three days before ABC2.

Critically acclaimed in both Australia and the US, season one of Please Like Me was heralded as one of the best shows of 2013 by The New Yorker, TIME, Entertainment Weekly and the LA Times.

In Australia, it won the 2014 AACTA Award for Best Television Comedy Series, the AWGIE Award (Australian Writers’ Guild) for Best Comedy Script, and the ADG Award (Australian Directors’ Guild) for Best Direction in a TV Comedy.

It has also been nominated for awards including the LOGIE for Outstanding Light Entertainment Program; the GLAAD Media Award (US) for Outstanding Comedy Series; and the forthcoming Rose D’Or Award for Best International Comedy Series.

Please Like Me’s 10-part season two sees Josh half-heartedly fighting a quarter life crisis while trying to get through the day without upsetting anyone. His mum continues to struggle with mental illness; his best friend Tom chooses all the wrong girls; his dad has a new baby to look after; as Josh, in his own awkward, self-centered and entertainingly frank way, is juggling them all while trying to find himself a boyfriend.

Please Like Me is a Pigeon Fancier and John & Josh International Production, produced in association with ABC TV and Pivot. The series was created and written by Josh Thomas. Executive Producers – Josh Thomas, Todd Abbott and Kevin Whyte. ABC TV Executive Producers – Rick Kalowski and Brett Sleigh. Pivot Executive Producers – Jeff Skoll and Holly Hines.

Tuesday August 12 at 9.30pm on ABC2.

  1. @Andrew_83

You resent Josh for earning a living ?

Fair enough if he’s not your cup of tea, but a lot of people find him entertaining and talented.

Also, ” ….on a only gay gay network…”. Even if that were true, why does it make him any less successful ?

  2. My favourite Australian show last year. Can’t wait to see it again It was funny and warm and thought provoking: All the right ingredients for a great show.

  3. Josh Thomas is so annoying, he even admitted to doing Celebrity Splash because they paid him “a shitload of money” and now with his Optus ads. I dont respect those type of people.

Also he may have been picked up in the US like other shows have but its on a only gay network so hes not that successful and popular as he makes out.

  4. I really need to get around to watching this. Happy to see an Australian show making waves overseas though.

Now if only other Australian shows would be picked up in America. I’m surprised they haven’t picked up Wentworth or Offspring yet.
