Anthony Hopkins to star in Westworld adaptation

Anthony Hopkins will undertake his first regular series role in HBO's adaptation of Westworld.

2014-07-23_1146Another big screen star is headed for a small screen series, this time Anthony Hopkins in JJ Abrams’ adaptation of Westworld.

Westworld was a sci-fi feature starring Yul Brynner, written and directed by Michael Crichton in 1973.

Described as a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin, the series will keep the setting of the movie and introduce new digital visual techniques.

Hopkins will undertake his first regular series role as Dr. Robert Ford, a brilliant and complicated creative director, chief programmer and chairman of the board of the amusement park Westworld. Ford has an uncompromising creative vision for the park and unorthodox methods of achieving it.

Evan Rachel Wood will co-star as Dolores Abernathy, the quintessential farm girl of the frontier West — who is about to discover that her entire idyllic existence is an elaborately constructed lie.

Jonathan Nolan (Person of Interest) who co-wrote the pilot, will executive produce and direct the adaptation for HBO.
