Axed: Sam and Cat

Put in Hiatus amid behind the scenes conflict, Nickelodeon now dumps comedy with Jennette McCurdy & Ariana Grande.

2014-04-03_1125Nickelodeon has axed tween comedy Sam and Cat following speculation about behind the scenes conflict.

In April the spinoff of Victorious and iCarly, was put into Hiatus after star Jennette McCurdy boycotted the Kids’ Choice Awards.

At the event kids voted the show Favourite TV Show and co-star Ariana Grande as TV Comedy Actress award, and creator Dan Schneider was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement award. On social media she said she chose not to attend due to being put in an “uncomfortable, compromising, unfair situation” an “how Nickelodeon treated me.”

Some media speculated she was being paid a lesser salary than Grande, while also referring to racy photos of her that had leaked online.

“Nickelodeon will not be producing more episodes of Sam & Cat,” a network spokesperson has today told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement. “We are very proud of the show and its very talented cast and we wish them all the best.”

Meanwhile, Dan Schneider is already in production on his next series Henry Danger.

McCurdy has previously told TV Tonight, “I’ve never met anybody as hard-working or as creative as him. Knowing he’s on my side is the best thing in the world.”

Sam and Cat has also been voted Aussies’ Fave Nick Show by local Nickelodeon viewers.
