Dr John retires from TV screens

He began on Beyond 2000 in 1981, but Dr. John has bowed out from the Seven Network.

2014-07-06_0051Dr John D’Arcy is retiring from television screens after three decades to focus on general practice in Beecroft.

“Dr. John’s” Epping practice was close to the Seven Network in 1981 when he began appearances on the network. He spent several years travelling the world for Beyond 2000, followed by other appearances across other Seven news and current affairs shows, including Sunrise and Sunday Night.

Dr John D’Arcy O’Donnell tells News Corp he was forbidden from using his full name in media by the Australian Medical Association (similar to Nine’s Dr. Wright).

“So I dropped the O’Donnell,” Dr John said. “It was in no way attracting patients, but it did give me was another avenue to tell people what was happening.”

Seven recently hired former TEN medico Dr. Andrew Rochford as its new national health editor, for Sunday Night, Seven News, Sunrise & The Morning Show.
