Fans left reeling as Wentworth packs a punch

"Freaking insane!" "Incredibly intense" "Holy hell!" Fans take to Twitter after a knockout episode of Wentworth.

wwthThat was a helluva night on Wentworth last night.

The episode had it all, the unravelling of Mr. Fletcher, the arrival of a mysterious new character a showdown between Frankie and Bea and an escape.

And we’re not even at the finale.

The way the stories by writer Adam Todd inter-connected it is now vying for the best hour of Australian series drama so far this year.

The bloody battle between Danielle Cormack and Nicole da Silva was dazzling (complete with the laundry press thrown in for good measure).

Wish I had seen it in advance so I could have tipped readers off (but I do have the Finale I am now busting to see).

I wasn’t surprised to see fans take to social media to burst with excitement over this one.

  1. this show needs to be sold sto a Network so the rest of Australia can see it. Something this good should not be hidden away on Pay Tv. Probably the best made Aussie show ever and hardly anyone sees it. i do have foxtel, but many dont.
It could be shown on FTA after the conclusion of the season and in the provisio that Ch10 has no say in production and it is unedited.

Oh, Pamela Rabe and Nicola De Silva should be eligible for the best actor logie. Both are far more deserving than any of the current FTA actors

  2. I love this show. I want to give a special wrap to the actresses that play Lizzie and Doreen. They get overlooked a bit due to the strong roles of the major players but they are so good in their roles they blow me away each week! Everyone in this show is perfect, not a weak link amongst them. Thank you foxtel for producing this, it’s the only thing keeping me from canceling my subscription.

  3. Every character is written and performed with incredible edge. I don’t think I’ve counted the days to the next episode as much as this since the reimagining of Battlestar Galactica. This is superb television. The fact that it is Australian made is something to be extra proud of.

Thank you for producing one of the greatest drama’s on Australian TV.

I appreciate and value the subtle body language and nuances of each character which gives a strong sense of realism.

I enjoy the prequel scenes, I hope to see how the Freak became the Freak in the future.

The casting of each character has been completely spot on.

I have to confess, I was very skeptical about this show when it first came to light, Im happy to be proven wrong as I have witnessed some of the best TV made in this country.

I appeal to fans to boycott reality TV, quality shows like this deserve longer seasons and more resources, be it actors, writers and funding.

  5. Just watched it and it was insane! What Bea did in the fight setting up Frankie, the escape, The Freak, double crossing Mr Fletch for the key card – all brilliant stuff! This must win some ACCTAs and Logies!
Best Australian drama in years. Cannot wait for the finale.

  6. Absolutely amazing! Best show on TV at the moment. The writing and the acting is consistently top-notch!
Franky and Bea’s fight was epic and brilliantly executed. The entire episode was full of suspense, in particular the scene where Bea broke into the mail room to look for a weapon to use against Franky in their bloody fight.
Pamela Rabe as The Freak has been a superb addition to the cast, as I thought that replacing Jacs would be difficult.
I honestly thought the first season finale was perfect with all the red herrings, but last night’s episode may have just topped it. Can’t wait for Tuesday night!

  7. Amazing show and an amazing episode, I was pacing during the fight scene and the only other time I’ve done that was last season’s SOA finale with Gemma laying in wait! Writing, acting, all the crew, did a fantastic job.

  8. Hey David, just FYI Adam Todd wrote Ep 11, I wrote the finale which airs next week. All the writers have worked so hard this year so thanks for recognising that! 🙂 Pete

  9. I loved the scene where the Governor went to the slot to talk to Boomer. she changed her tone and was sympathetic to Boomer to get her to open up. Top notch acting.

  10. Wentworth is outstanding and inspirational Australian drama in every way – and proves we can make drama here that can confidently take its place next to the brilliant international dramas that collectively represent this golden age of television drama, and which are inevitably raising our drama expectations. (This level of energy, insight and vision is sadly missing from most ABC drama). Congratulations to a phenomenal team. The other incredible fact about this medium-budget series is that it is all drama happening in a confined space – no big expensive elements such as CGI, or location shooting – just the temperature rising with every episode. Pamela Rabe as The Freak scares me to death.

    1. Agree with the confined space remark. There’s no falling back on outside distractions (ie. the weekly family bbq / function) to prop up the storytelling. I see so much of that going on elsewhere.

  11. From the 17 year old’s point of view that was the most impressive episode of anything that I’ve ever seen! It was insane!!! Hail #teambea, pride in Australian cinema right here !!

  12. Didn’t watch the 1st season, decided to give the 2nd a go (picked up the storylines straight away)and can I tell you it has been an absolute pearler! Wentworth is a far better Australian drama than anything on the FTA networks in recent years (minus APTCH). The acting is top notch and has blown me away, congrats to Foxtel for this one.

David, any news on a 3rd season? Are they not doing one or haven’t we heard anything yet?
