Neighbours to screen in USA via Hulu

Ramsay Street goes Stateside thanks to Hulu streaming.

2014-07-08_1142Ramsay Street is coming (back) to the USA after a FremantleMedia International deal with Hulu and Hulu Plus subscription service.

Neighbours, which marks its 30th anniversary next year, previously screened in the US in 2004 on female-skewed cable channel Oxygen, but is understood to not extended beyond a six week trial.

From next week, new episodes will debut daily, just four weeks after their Australian broadcast on ELEVEN.

Neighbours provides a delicious daily dose of Australian sunshine to soap-opera fans, and thanks to Hulu, we’re coming to the U.S. at a perfect entry point for first-time viewers,” said Jeff Siegel, VP Digital Distribution and Home Entertainment at FremantleMedia.

“The drama, the excitement and the intrigue are all wonderfully accessible to anyone eager to get hooked on the compelling storylines of Australia’s longest-running scripted television series.”

The first week of US episodes will include an appearance by Paula Abdul.

  1. 3rd time lucky for Neighbours to crack the US market? A couple of independent channels tried Neighbours on a 13-week trial over summer in the early ’90s and it was quickly forgotten about.

    1. Thanks Andrew. Fremantle’s press release actually claimed it was a first debut for Neighbours in the US. I had to remind them it was last attempted in 2004 via the arrival of the Scully clan into the street, but your added info is good.
