Renewed: Fargo

The excellent small screen adaptation of Fargo gets 10 new episodes -but where will the story go now?

2014-07-22_1124Now this is going to be fascinating, given where the series ended…. Fargo has been renewed for a second season.

FX has confirmed another 10 episodes by writer Noah Hawley.

John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks & FX Productions at the at the the Television Critics Ass. press tour said, “We could not be more proud of Fargo.

“Noah’s audacious, bordering on hubristic riff on my favorite Coen brothers film earned 18 Emmy nominations – the most for a single program in our history. Fargo was nothing short of breathtaking and we look forward to the next installment.”

But like True Detective, it will feature different actors, a fresh time period and new crime -and won’t air until late 2015 at the earliest. Martin Freeman has previously noted, he was all “done” as Lester Nygaard.

Noah Hawley has also previously stated to E Online that he believes that “it would strain credulity I think to have the continuing adventures of Molly and Gus with [a new storyline of] ‘What crazy Coen Brother case are they going to catch next time?’ My feeling is we would explore new territory, but nothing is set in stone yet.”

Fargo airs in Australia on SBS ONE.

  1. Fantastic to see Fargo given another season.

According to TV.com, Noah Hawley has confirmed it will be set in 1979, exploring Lou Solverson and the Sioux Falls massacre he mentioned during season 1.
I hope the new cast is as good, especially the actor taking over from Keith Carradine.

  2. Fantastic news !

Wasn’t expecting another series as I remember reading somewhere that Fargo was originally intended as a one-off.
So a real bonus to hear of another season.
Really hope they can keep up the high standard of the first.

(Will miss the characters of weasely Lester and psycho,Malvo though – they will be a hard act to follow).

  3. Superb first season, can’t wait for the second.

    This from moviehole.net:

“The second season of FX’s “Fargo” will be a prequel, fixing on the younger version of Lou Solverson, the character played by Keith Carradine in the first season.”
