Trailer: ITV: “Where Drama Lives”

Video: New season peeks at Downton Abbey, Scott & Bailey, Lewis and Cilla.

2014-07-31_1347Earlier this week ITV released a trailer of its upcoming “Autumn” dramas that includes a peek at Downton Abbey, Scott & Bailey, Lewis plus a hint of Sheridan Smith (Mrs. Biggs) as Cilla Black.

It’s not clear where these will end up on Australian TV but Seven, ABC and Pay TV have all played recent titles.

Cilla – Starring Sheridan Smith.

Chasing Shadows – Starring Reece Shearsmith, Alex Kingston and Noel Clarke.

The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, Beyond the Pale and The Ties that Bind – Starring Paddy Considine.

Scott & Bailey – returns for a fourth series starring Suranne Jones, Lesley Sharp and Amelia Bullmore.

Grantchester – Starring James Norton and Robson Green.

The Great Fire – Starring Andrew Buchan, Rose Leslie, Daniel Mays, Charles Dance and Jack Huston.

Downton Abbey – returns for it’s 5th series starring Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Joanne Froggatt.

Lewis – is back for its 8th series – Starring Kevin Whately, Laurence Fox and Angela Griffin.

I rather hope that the ABC will continue to land the better ITV shows, the commercial FTA networks seem not to know what to do with UK programs: if it’s a hit then it gets padded with ads and rammed down the audience’s throats (Top Gear, Downton Abbey etc); if its not an unqualified success it’ll get dropped (Rome), shunted around the schedules (Ripper Street), used as a filler for a digital channel (Vera, Lewis) or re-surface on a digital channel months or even years later (Torchwood).

    I can’t think of too many UK shows that the commercial networks have treated well.
