X Factor avoids clash with Voice, MasterChef finales.

No X Factor for Mondays for 2 weeks as rival Reality shows reach their crescendo.

2014-07-18_1359Seven will keep The X Factor out of Mondays for two weeks as big Reality juggernauts reach their end point.

Earlier this week it confirmed a switch for next week to avoid going up against The Voice grand final. It will air on Wednesday, with factuals and a movie in play for Monday night.

Now it has confirmed the same scheduling a week later to avoid the MasterChef grand final. We don’t often see Seven reacting to TEN programming, it’s usually the reverse as it was when TEN moved their Ian Thorpe interview from 6:30 to 6pm.

Ironically the change means TEN’s Bachelor premiere on Wednesday July 30 will now go head to head with X Factor, which it hadn’t banked on. The Block is also in play from July 27.

While X Factor has had some mixed fortunes this week (hence a decision to avoid Monday finales), the talent has remained strong.

Some of the singers in Sunday’s upcoming episode are surely the strongest yet.

  1. @Secret Squirrel – Um no actually, I’m just a normal person that likes tv and is sick of people bagging other channels and shows especially The X Factor since people keep saying it’s the worst show ever blah blah blah. I think it is a great show with lots of talented people ready to become stars.

  2. Not sure there is anything unselfish about. It’s all to do with ratings. 7 doesn’t want to waste an episode of X Factor against something that will obviously rate higher. Simple. All networks are the same.

  3. I can’t believe some of you are still bagging The X Factor and Seven in general. Seven made a great, unselfish decision not to have The X Factor against the final of The Voice and Masterchef. Nine is way more unselfish like look at it when they put ‘Schapelle’ against ‘INXS’ they failed big time.

  4. I decided not to watch X factor this year because of the amount of advertising they did. The first promo I saw for the X factor was the 30th of April. 2 and a half months before it started. The constant same ads ruined it for me. The ratings have dipped a bit too. So I think I will watch the voice instead.

Feel much better getting that off my chest!

  5. Jeff, I acknowledge that other networks use this practice all the time. I am extra critical of this decision because Seven launched X Factor knowing full well that it would be going against The Voice finale on a Monday and that the MasterChef finale would likely air at the top end of the week. Not a lot of forward thinking there. The ratings are nothing to worry about either, 1.25m on Sunday/Tuesday and 1m on Monday is excellent. Just greedy for more.

For the record, I don’t currently watch any of the 3 reality shows, but I hope you enjoy the ones that you choose to watch.

  6. @reesieboi: We get it from every damm you post about this subject, you hate The X Factor & it seems Seven too. Although at least be objective when you comment about scheduling decisions…

David never said The X Factor was ‘dominating’ the ratings in his post. He noted that the ratings for the show are currently down for this season, hence the scheduling change.

I don’t get how alvar & you can seriously call the scheduling move ‘pathetic’ and that Seven should stick with their original plan. Nine & Ten regularly do similar things with their shows for exactly the same reason – to avoid competition & maybe get better ratings for their shows. If Seven didn’t made this move, you guys would be the first ones to criticize them for not making the move they’re doing now…

  7. Seven were cocky and decided to launch X Factor early up against MasterChef and The Voice. They should stick by that decision now and see it through.

  8. Wise move by Seven. They aren’t going to be too worried by giving both nights up to Nine and Ten, and it strengthens their Wednesday lineup, and a win for the viewers.

  9. A lot of people would see this as a smart move… I think it’s pathetic.
You can’t say The X Factor “dominated” the ratings when they had no competition for them. The show’s ratings are down from last year so far and Seven’s only concern with their cash cow of a show is saving face. It just looks desperate and manipulated. But then again, what Seven reality series isn’t? #rantover
