2014-08-21_0158The FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup will screen for the first time on free to air television.

ABC2 screens coverage live from Spain from 1:25am Sunday August 31 (check local guides), it will be preceded by a preview show Double Dribble earlier in the night.

For two weeks, ABC2 will bring you the best basketball on the planet as Australia’s Boomers take on the rest of the world. Calling the games from Spain and getting the latest news from inside the Aussie camp are Shane ‘The Hammer’ Heal and premier basketball commentator John Casey.

Before crossing to Spain each night for all the Boomers and Team U.S.A games live, join the basketball mad Double Dribble team, nightly at 8.20pm on ABC2, as they give you their take on the action as well as bringing you up to date with all the highlights, the fun and just plain weird happenings from the Basketball World Cup.

Then each night, sport broadcaster Stephanie Brantz will take us through the night’s coverage with a rotating cast of experts including Boomers legend, Andrew Gaze; former Australian player and four-time Olympian, ‘The General’ Phil Smyth; and three time Boomer Olympian, Brett Maher plus a few more guest appearances along the way.

First up on ABC2 the Australian Boomers will meet Slovenia in their first pool game from the Canary Islands while on ABC tune in to watch team USA who will face Finland in their first game. Go the Boomers!

If it’s basketball you want, we’ll bring it to you in August and September on ABC2.

  1. It’s a shame Mills needed shoulder surgery. Without him hard to see us doing as well as we did at the London @l^mp!cs.

Lithuania beat us in a warm up game and look likely to finish top in our group. We lost one game to Finland and needed a late run to beat France.
