Airdate: Pan Pacific Swimming Championships 2014

'Retired' US swimmer Michael Phelps makes his return to international competition, screening on ONE.

2014-08-20_1448I can’t help but think of Strictly Ballroom whenever I hear the words ‘Pan Pacific’ but apparently there’s a bit of a splash in the pool happening too.

ONE will screen the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships from Thursday to Sunday, with commentary by Mel McLaughlin, Mark Howard, Lachy Reid, Nicole Livingstone and Leisel Jones.

American swimming legend and the greatest Olympian of all time, Michael Phelps, makes his return to international competition at the 2014 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, live and exclusive on ONE and TEN from Thursday, August 21.

Network Ten’s Mel McLaughlin, Mark Howard and Lachy Reid – plus two of Australia’s most decorated swimmers, Nicole Livingstone and Leisel Jones – will deliver all the analysis, action and electric atmosphere over four days of world-class swimming competition at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.

Basking in the afterglow of their record medal haul at the XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, the Australian swim team will go for gold against the might of the United States, Japan, Canada and more.

Our best swimmers will be competing, including world champions Cate Campbell, James Magnussen, Bronte Campbell, Emma McKeon, five-time Olympic medallist Alicia Coutts, Emily Seebohm and Gold Coast young gun Cameron McEvoy.

After announcing his retirement in 2012, Michael Phelps will make his return to international swimming at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships. An eight-time gold medallist from the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and with a staggering 22 Olympic medals to his name, Phelps will be a tough competitor to look past.

Phelps will lead a star-studded international line-up including Ryan Lochte, Nathan Adrian, Missy Franklin and Kathleen Ledecky.

  1. @William I was totally underwhelmed by her performance at the Comm Games. She relied on her autocue far too much & when she went off script did not seem ver comfortable. She was not a great interviewer too. Maybe she is a hit because she has the looks, but I find I need more than that from an anchor on something like the Comm Games.

  2. @maxxdude – she was awesome and she is good to look at and plus she will be hosting Ten’s BBL very soon. She is one of the best female presenters in the country

  3. Why show it Sat night on Ten? I’m aware it’s following the Union Test but surely it’s better suited to keeping all 4 nights on the one channel instead of confusing viewers?
