Did Anna McGahan just exit House Husbands?

With Anna McGahan yet to be confirmed for Season 4, did House Husbands just farewell another key character?

003 Anna McGahanDid Lucy Crabb (Anna McGahan) depart Nine’s House Husbands last night?

After a marriage proposal from Justin (Firass Dirani) she left for an overseas trip to make some decisions about what she really wants. Or maybe she was just driving off to film ANZAC Girls.

But it’s unclear if McGahan will return to the Nine drama.

When House Husbands was recently renewed, McGahan’s name was off the list of returning cast. A Nine spokesperson told TV Tonight she hasn’t been confirmed for Season 4 yet, but that didn’t mean she was necessarily out.

If Lucy is out of the series -and that’s unclear- it would leave just Mark (Rhys Muldoon) and Abi (Natalie Saleeba) as the only couple continuing in a relationship that hasn’t split or separated. This is something of a conundrum for House Husbands. Drama requires that characters and relationships face conflict.

Yet surely a House Husband, by definition, is one-half of a long-term sustained relationship, in order to remain home and care for children. One doesn’t normally agree to put their career on hold to care for the children of a newly-dating partner.

It’s down to the skill of writers to keep juggling those balls in the air, including whether Lucy will indeed return to Justin.

  1. Season one was great but I’m struggling to stay interested this season. One of the major things I struggle with is Julie Morris playing a serious character – hate to say it, but her acting ability leaves a lot to be desired.

We need some high quality dramas to fill the void left by Offspring and A Place To Call Home. Puberty Blues was brilliant again this season and Love Child, a pleasing surprise. Other than that there is very little on offer.

  2. I have found this season of HH to be the best yet.
The Crabb family are by far the best. Sweet and Morris are by far the most likable couple and the three daughters are all excellent.

  3. I reckon HH has definitely jumped the shark – last week’s episode was just pathetic, bad storyline, badly scripted and badly acted.

Last night’s wasn’t a whole lot better. At least Abi and Mark seemed to have abandoned their/her helicopter parenting, soooo unfuriating. And I’m fed up with Gary Sweet’s constant scowling.

I just think they’ve run out of ideas. As others have said, they spend more time at the kids’ school than anywhere else – certainly not at their pub, which must run itself. Which makes none of them house husbands any more.

  4. I agree, Abi and Mark are dull
Constantly being at the school is so boring to watch
Lucy is great, hope she finds her Romeo in Sth America however I thought someone was getting married in the next 2 final shows (saw preview) and assumed it was Lucy. Now confused – pls dont tell me Gemma renews her vows with Lewis, poor thing.

  5. Have not seen last night’s ep yet … I record it to fast forward through boring stuff. I really only care about what is happening with Kane. The break up of Gary Sweet’s marriage (for example) is just not believable at all. Mark and Abi bore me too.
Bring back A Place to Call Home!

  6. Yes David, agree that HH has bounced back in the ratings.
Probably due to there being so few locally produced dramas on TV so viewers are searching for an alternative to the glut of reality programs.
I have no problem with supporting local dramas – I actually prefer them to overseas ones
I have loved shows like Puberty Blues,Time Of Our Lives, and Please Like Me.

The problem I have with HH is the writing and some of the unrealistic , corny scenarios presented.
I like many of the well known actors involved but feel they deserve a better calibre of drama to properly showcase their talents.

  7. I’ve always liked this show and tried to stay with it, but agree it seems to have veered off its premise of House Husbands ie men at home while woman out working. Now sitting more as just an out and out soap.

  8. Anna leaving a sinking ship perhaps?
She is one of the more convincing, less annoying characters in HH.
She is actually very good in Anzac Girls.

Agree with the comments her about HH going off the rails.
Seems those parents practically sleep at their kid’s primary school – totally unbelievable the number of school concerts, parent class helper days and functions each whole family (including adult siblings),seems to attend at the drop of a hat.
Even more so when some of the characters are supposed to be busy health care workers, etc.

    1. Its ratings and renewal would hardly suggest it is a sinking ship. A little more support for local drama would not go astray, especially when readers indicate they want more drama, less reality.

But the storyline feedback has been interesting.

  9. I love the concept of this show and always watch the start of every season. But interest wanes because the concept is too broad. It’s disconcerting to be watching an 8.30pm adults drama which then veers into cutesy kiddie stuff. It needs to decide if it is a family show for a 6.30 or 7.30pm timeslot or an adult show where the kids are less seen and less heard.

  10. the show this season really lost it for me… i echo J Bars comments.. it had so much promise but this years story arc has really let the followers of the show down. Maybe next year will be its last….

  11. The premise of the show was damaged by the writers last season and now completely ruined this season. They’re hardly “house husbands” at all, since the blokes started running a pub together. They are just working couples (or not-couples as the case may be).
