ABC’s Jack Irish telemovies, starring Guy Pearce, look set for a US remake to be set in Boston.
FOX has ordered the script for a pilot for a one-hour series adapted from Essential Media and Entertainment’s trio of telemovies, based on the books of Peter Temple.
Essential previous saw its Rake series adapted by FOX with Greg Kinnear, although it did not proceed past 13 episodes.
The script will be written by Anna Fricke (Being Human), who is also the showrunner, and Seamus Kevin Fahey (Spartacus: Blood and Sand). Essential CEO Chris Hilton will executive produce with Ian Collie and Simonne Overend.
While a Pilot is yet to be approved, the ABC has seen several of its projects cherry-picked for adaptation including The Slap, Rake, The Moodys, Lowdown, Strange Calls and Review with Myles Barlow.

Must admit I like the low tone style of the Jack Irish telemovies and would love to see a TV series made. Guy Pearce is an excellent actor and perfect for the role. The series to date has a real Australian flavour to it. Love the secondary characters esp his shonky Arthur Daley like and Minder Terry McCann like support duo. Bring them on.
@Craig, Yes for sure.
@stevie g – I don’t know if it’s just me but watching local shows I don’t notice the ‘Aussie’ accents, it’s only when they try and do them in the US/UK that they come out and sound so fake!
Because in the US guild system everybody makes lots of money making new TV shows, even it they are crap, not airing good ones that already exist.
Very true, these remakes very rarely work, but they would probably have trouble with the true Aussie accents.
Why do a remake, they don’t have a good track record and Guy Pearce is well known in the US, just air the original and be done with it!
