‘Lucky’ Phil marks 45 years with Nine

It's not just stars who chalk up long runs with networks, but sometimes famed floor managers too.

2014-08-16_0144Belated congratulations to Phil Lambert who recently celebrated 45 years of service with GTV9.

‘Lucky’ Phil is well-known to many viewers for his work behind the cameras at Hey Hey its Saturday.

Five days after man walked on the moon, Lambert walked joined the corridors of GTV9 at Bendigo Street, Richmond, and went on to cover roles in staging, floor managing and camera departments. In this fickle business where staff turnover is high, 45 years with the same employer is an incredible achievement.

Over the years he has worked with the biggest names including Don Lane, Bert Newton, Graham Kennedy, Ernie and Denise, Eddie McGuire, Peter Hitchener and of course, Daryl Somers and Ernie Carroll.

In this vintage Chooklotto scene, ‘Lucky Phil’ is seen nicking the frozen chickens.

    1. Probably associated with the road safety ad that was running at the time. When they would cut to a shot of him on the floor they played the audio “This…. is Lucky Phil.” Audio guy Murray was always quick off the pulse.

  1. Watching this clip reminded me why I loved the original HHIS so much and what you don’t see in shows these days – crew interaction. The other notable instance is ‘Belvedere’ on Bert’s GMA and possibly ‘Peter the Phantom Puller & Tony the Mustache Twirler’ on Blankety Blanks (although they were never seen)…

Everyone on Hey Hey was involved with the show – Cast, Crew, Announcer, Band, along with guys on the floor like Phil. Wasn’t re-created in the reboot, and with the aging cast I think that’s where it failed. Sadly with staff cutbacks and the advancement of technology more shows seem to have less and less floor crew to rely on…
