Oops. Mornings apologises for F-bomb interview.

US comedian lets rip on morning TV, leading to his plug being yanked.

2014-08-05_1608Ahh live telly… this will probably be one for the end of year Christmas Party reel.

Nine’s Mornings has apologised to viewers following a satellite interview with US comedian Andrew Dice Clay, who is heading to Australia for his first tour.

Billed as ‘The Undisputed Heavyweight of Comedy,’ Clay appeared in his trademark leather waistcoat smoking a cigarette.

But as promoters McManus Entertainment has posted on social media, “Less than a minute into his interview, the satellite was cut by the network when Dice broke all live TV protocol by cursing excessively when explaining his enthusiasm for his Australian fans and his first tour Down Under.”

Updated: Despite having no monitor in New York, he asked David Campbell about guest presenter Georgie Gardner.

“The truth when you’re looking at her. is she like a hot number? Because that’s part of the thing about me coming to Australia. A lot of these girls that come to see me from Australia, they use that line, ‘You’ll get down under.’ They’re sexy, they’re f***in hot. I’m tellin’ you. I want to kangaroo f*** half these chicks across the country….”

“We’re going to have to cut there,” said Campbell “Because he was using some words that we do not do at this time of the morning.”

“They’re actually a big no-no at this time of the morning,” Gardner added.

“Our apologies for that. We move on”

Surely not just a cynical stunt for his tour?

Mornings apologised to those on Twitter who complained.

Somewhat ironically the show also had topics discussing “The dangers of ignoring the fine print!” and “It’s not me, it’s you!”

  1. Ha! Classic! Guest does all the swearing and hosts do all the apologising. I love when these safe, uninteresting morning programs try and go all edgy, for it only to completely back fire.

They should stick to selling vacuum cleaners, and having “nice” interviews with uncontroversial characters.

  2. This reminds me of The Project were shocked that Johnny Rotten was rude – if you book guests famous for being rude or sweary, it’s really your fault when that’s what you get.
Did anyone research Andrew? Some of the cast of Saturday Night Live boycotted their own show when he was booked for an episode.
All that happened here is exactly what was always going to happen.

  3. I happened to see this live this morning. He dropped out 2 F-bombs. I thought it was very odd they didn’t cut out earlier, isn’t that what the 10 second dealy on TV is for? There was a good 5 seconds between F-words and they didn’t cut after the first.

I wasn’t offended by the language or anything, but I can understand how a show in the morning aimed at stay at home parents with pre-school aged kids and retirees would be. Poor effort from the Nine censors.
